Was that a small whale, or a trick of the perspective? Because it looks really close to the shoreline.

It was astonishingly close to the shoreline. Mind you the bottom drops out pretty quick there, but the guide remarked how she'd never seen one so close to shore. Worked out for me; much more interesting to have a background rather than another of the endless Black Lump In Open Water shots whale watching tends to generate.
