Mandy Brocklehurst wended her way through the crowds at King's Cross Station as quickly as she could, without bowling passersby over. She carried only her purse and a backpack (and her wand, of course,) but the backpack was heavy with books. After all, a girl couldn't have too much to read, and the train trip from London to Hogwarts was godawful long.

As she approached gate 9-3/4, she saw the usual mob of parents and students, all loaded down with luggage trolleys and talking excitedly to each other. She waved to a few Ravenclaws and others she recognized and then saw a familiar girl with pale blonde hair standing next to Neville Longbottom and Dean Thomas.

Mandy broke out into a grin and walked over to the trio. "Hey, Luna! Where'd you pick up the two swains?" She beamed at Dean and Neville. "It's really good to see you two again."

"Swains?" said Luna, thoughtfully, thinking of it as a surname rather than simply meaning a young man, "No, their names are Dean Thomas and Neville Longbottom. I thought you knew that?"

Mandy must have known, since she seemed happy to see them. Perhaps she just confused in the smoke and noise of the station. An easy enough mistake to make.

"Of course, they're Dean and Neville. Who else would they be?" Mandy said good-naturedly, in too happy a mood to give Luna a baffled look. Mandy became a bit more serious. "How are you lot doing? Last year was pretty rough, even if the summer was a bit of a breather."

"Good summer," Dean had replied to Neville and then contently taken a back seat to the conversation. After all, he had spent a year on the run in various places whereas Neville and Luna had spent a good part of the school year together. He sometimes felt he didn't know who people were any more. So, he walked behind them, smiling occasionally.

As Neville pushed along Luna's trolley and Dean ambled along behind them, he saw Mandy rush over. She smiled adn greeted them and he smiled back.

"It was a good break," Dean answered, not bring attention to the fact that it had almost been more than just a break. "It was good to be home again, anyway. How about your summer? Nothing near as chaotic as the school, I'd imagine."
