Percy sighed and tried to make due with the horrendous paper and quill the hospital provided. The waiting room was eerily quiet compared to how it had been the afternoon before when he had arrived. A stray person or group inhabited the area, consisting only of some tensely standing family members and a few workers weaving through the lot.
Percy turned his attention back to the letters he was trying to write, three drafts before having been thrown away. He understood why Charlie didn't wish for him to inform the family - with all that had happened recently worrying them seemed inhumanly cruel- but despite this argument Percy knew, if he had been in their position, he would want to hear of the injuries regardless of the stress it would invoke.
Besides, he thought a bit stiffly, running a hand through his unfortunately sloppy hair, they would certainly find out soon. Patricia would file a report and gossip would run rampant through the Ministry - his own absence would do little to help. His first vacation, he thought a bit ruefully, and this is how he spends it. In a time when he really did not have time to get off work. He had asked the minister if he could perhaps send an owl or two of work should the load get to great but Kingsley refused to think of it, stating he should be with his brother and granting the time off without question.
With a shake of the head Percy turned back to the letters in hand, frowning down at the blank paper before taking a deep breath and beginning.
Dear Mum and Dad,
I unfortunately must be the bearer of bad news - I am in Spain, where Charlie has been admitted into a hospital. He's alright now, he was poisoned by some bats apparently during a mission here regarding the centaur rebellion. Please do not alarm yourselves, he did not want me to even send these in fear of putting you both into too much worry.
I do assure you everything is fine according to the doctors. Charlie is a bit confused from the potions he was given but it seems he is much more resilient than we give him credit for. He is resting quite well and will hopefully be out very soon.
Patricia Stimpson - you may remember her from work father, she's in the International Cooperation department under Amos Coleman - was the one who informed me of it; she and Charlie were working together on the project.
I thought you ought to know. I am spending some time here, you know how Charlie thinks he's better before he really is and manages to strain himself. I can promise you he will not be going off and about until he is fully well.
With Love,
Percy
Dear Bill,
Congratulations on your new position. It thrills me you are finally making proper use of your skills - not that curse breaking wasn't important, but shaping the minds of a whole generation of young witches and wizards certainly outshines it in certain lights.
My letter is not one purely of well wishes I'm afraid - Charlie has been admitted into a hospital in Spain. He was there for his department to help with all this Centaur rebellion work when he was poisoned by bats and had some run ins with trolls. He's doing well; the doctors assure me that he is going to make a full recovery. Please do not worry too much for him, he's cross I am even sending these letters but I imagined you would all find out eventually and that I would want to be notified if the situation were switched.
Would you tell both Ginny and Ron of this? They are your students now I suppose, and they have the right to know of his condition as well. Beware - I have told mum as well and I am quite sure she'll be in a state.
I am going to stay in Spain until Charlie is ready to come home, and only then. No more of this 'I'm alright' nonsense when he needs the bed rest. I'm unsure of how long he will be in, hopefully not long for both our parts.
Send my regards to Fleur and best of luck with your classes.
With Love,
Percy
George-
Charlie was hurt during his time in Spain. He is alright and going to make a full recovery according to the doctors. He's at St. Nigel's.
I thought you ought to know.
