Percy took a hesitant step into the Leaky Cauldron, eying the area a bit anxiously before his eyes fell on Charlie's tense form. He had heard during his lunch break, which really was more like a quick run through the cafeteria in hopes of finding something quickly, that the new Weasley had thrown a fit with his boss. Percy had muttered what defenses he could before leaving to try and find his brother, only to hear he had left the building entirely. After guessing the only places his brother would go - the Leaky Cauldron, the Burrow or Shell Cottage - Percy left behind his still full desk of work to go and seek out the older man.

To say he wasn't miffed would be a lie - he couldn't understand why Charlie couldn't keep his job for one day at the least, and not lose his composure so easily, forcing Percy to take the rest of the afternoon off to try and fix the mess Charlie had made. Percy sighed and tried to wipe such thoughts from his mind - family always first, he reminded, and approached Charlie, taking the seat beside him ( ... )

Charlie jumped and nearly fell from his chair when he heard Percy's voice. He had been so absorbed in his (angry) thoughts that he had not seen him coming at all. "What the-" He sighed, exasperated. "What, so the story of my oh-so-brilliant meeting with my boss already reached your ears, Percy?"

He smirked. "Well, I'm not surprised. If you guys are all like that Kirkwell woman, it's not like you're overworking yourselves trying to implement policies," he replied, rather stiffly. He hated to sound like that, especially to anyone in his family, but "Percy", at the moment, was associated with "Ministry" in his mind, and "Ministry" was associated with "Murderous intent". Charlie suddenly wondered if he'd also reply like that if it was his dad, and not Percy, who was sitting next to him at the moment.

Probably, yes, he decided.

"What on earth did she do to anger you so thoroughly?" Percy asked, eyebrow raised. His brother's hostility was surprising, but the mention of Kirkwell helped explain some of the frustration. He frowned at the memories of her involvement in his inquiry of the Crouch incident. "I am well aware that speaking with Kirkwell is a less then savory experience."

" "Less than a savory experience"? You gotta be kidding, Perce!" Charlie exclaimed vehemently. It was hard for him to control himself; right at the moment he wanted nothing more than to storm off, grab his broomstick and just fly to nowhere in particular. He was not exactly in the mood for a quiet discussion. Especially a discussion about the Ministry, and with Percy, of all people. "That woman, and what she represents, are a danger for the Wizarding world. I can't believe that after everything that's happened, your precious Ministry is still exactly the same... Damn, and here I thought Kingsley would change that.."

"He has!" Percy said sharply, feeling himself tense at Charlie's words. He was normally a rather calm individual, or outwardly so at least, but the past few weeks fighting for his family's approval, George's remarks and continuing problems at the Ministry were beginning to wear on him more then he would have liked to admit. "Like it or not the Ministry is not some large dysfunction of evil like our family would like to believe. It is an important organization run by people - fallible people, some of whom work daily for the better of wizarding society and some who are simply evil in their intentions. Instead of having a hissy fit perhaps you can step back and try to find a way to fix the problem rather then sit here and shout about it!" he finished, sending Charlie a writhing glare.

Charlie took a few deep breaths, feeling extremely unimpressed by his brother's display of anger. Had it been on another day, he would have been the one who tried to calm Percy down instead of adding fuel to the fire, but Charlie was not really thinking straight at the moment, and in Percy's talk, he could only hear what he had been hearing in the past years, and what he had also heard today from that Kirkwell woman. "Is that what you really think, Perce?" he snorted, feeling too bitter to yell. "Well, I shouldn't be surprised, that's what you told Dad too, isn't it? When you freakin' slammed the door in the family's face and chose to side with the Ministry! You still on about that?"

He raised his eyes to Percy's face, glaring angrily. "Well, congratulations, because if you haven't changed, neither has the Ministry. And don't give me that stupid speech on trying to fix things, when your dear little friend told me that it was not part of the Merlin-forsaken procedure to fix things! Since you know how it all really works, at least be ( ... )
