The pygmy puff was a given. Ginny's hadn't had her pygmy puff, Arnold, since leaving Hogwarts earlier in the year and he thought...hoped...that she would want another. It was tiny and purple and Harry could see it's thin tongue sweep out along the small bars of the cage Harry had purchased for it.

He carried it along with him as he walked through Diagon Alley, stopped several times by strangers wanting to say hello. It had been the same in Hogsmeade, when he had purchased a couple blocks of chocolate from Honeydukes for her. His mind was a mess and he had no clue what else to get Ginny. She had got him such a fantastic gift for his own birthday, and while Ron's suggestion of buying Ginny her own Firebolt Maximus wasn't that bad, it certainly didn't seem original.

What did he buy for a girl he was dating? Was it pathetic that he was eighteen and had never had to do this before?

Scratching the nape of his neck, Harry paused in the street, sweeping his gaze along the shops, hoping one would catch his attention.

And it did.

Madam Martha - Jewels Extraordinaire!

He found his feet moving in the direction of the shop and with one last glance around him, he stepped inside. He wished he had Ron with him, or Hermione. He didn't know the first thing about jewelry, or if Ginny even liked it. He couldn't remember seeing her ever wear even a bracelet, but then again, Harry had never paid much attention to those kinds of details.

An hour later he left with a a Madam Martha's bag in his hand and a grimace on his face. He had spent the last sixty minutes assuring Madam Martha that he wasn't looking to purchase an engagement ring, wincing as her assistant, Toadful Barkins, snapped pictures of him, for what he claimed was a "VIP Clientele Book" Madam Martha kept.

The whole experience left a bitter taste in Harry's mouth, but he left fairly happy with the emerald earrings and matching necklace. If Ginny liked them, then it would be worth it.
