Once again, a two-hour post.

Feb 07, 2005 21:36

I've received a lot of mail in the last week or so, and that is awesome. I've been giving as good as I get, too, except that I have no stickers. Although I appreciate all your letters, hands-down the most stimulating came from the Loom Lady (she whose loom I indirectly inherited over Christmas). I'm yet to see it, since it arrived after I ( Read more... )

That Bollywood getup is like straight out of a Klimpt painting. Awesome.

And walking through a hoarde of firetrucks would be so Alanis Morrisette.

Klimpt! Of course! You are a genius.

I think Alanis Morrisette would do it naked, but the point is that now I am singing "Head Over Feet". Once I had perhaps a third of Jagged Little Pill, but that was many drive crashes ago.

Your avatar: alarming.

Have you considered creative writing? anonymous February 8 2005, 16:12:13 UTC
Perhaps your writing blocks come from some deep need to be creative and not merely repeat and refine the words of others (English or Russian). You could take a year off, weave, write, and find your true calling. A cottage in an Italian villiage, some local wine and outstanding food.

Just a thought!

1) Silly Rachel! Everyone knows that Alanis walks around naked in the "Thank you, India" video. I'm not even sure that there is a "Jagged Little Pill" video. Hmmph.

(Thinking, now, of Leah, and wondering what she's up to...)

2) Everyone also knows that if three emergency vehicles pull up and an EMT announces "Well, it looks like there's some blood over here," you follow the EMT and see what kind of cool shit is going down. Geez ( ... )

I am lolling h4rdc0r3, missy, and I've got 10 good reasons. Eleven, if you count Aaron schooling my mom up there.

(3) I debated retaining the periods when I abbreviated BloodAlcoholContent, but I figured they were unnecessary. Figured wrong. Also, (5) I had forgotten about that milk ad, but now that you've recalled it to memory I remember how utterly (4) tophaceous it was. (8) Keep in mind that the first true omlette of my life was consumed (while I was) sitting across from you in Hyde Park, so you needn't let my opinion on this matter get to you.

I hope that (6) Fate will never tempt me with a non-English speaker and his/her letter to Charlton Heston, because I might possibly take advantage. In other news, I have no idea what you're talking about.

3) Yeah, I figured it out as soon as I hit "post." I swear.

6) I thought I told you this story, perhaps drunkenly on the phone from the Villa Bassi. Anyway, one time, when I was at the internet cafe in Rome, these two men asked me to proofread this letter. They were writing to Charlton Heston to ask for advice on how to become a great actor like him. I felt bad for them, so I corrected the grammar/punctuation/spelling/syntax/etc.

Which begs the question: Does "grammar" encompass punctuation, spelling, and syntax, or do I need to list all of those separately?

12) Also, I forgot to voice my approval of Russian communist spelling-standardizing. Especially w/r/t Yiddish.

13) "w/r/t" Useful or annoying? Discuss.

(6) You told me a lot of drunk stories, considering you had to dial 20-digit numbers to do it. But I confess I don't remember this one.

(6b)Until a not very distant date, Grammar was divided by Eng. writers (following the precedent of Latin grammarians) into Orthography, Etymology, Syntax, and Prosody, to which Orthoëpy was added by some authors. All these terms (except Syntax) were used more or less inaccurately (see the several words). The division now usual is that into Phonology, treating of the sounds used in the language, Accidence, of the inflexional forms or equivalent combinations, and Syntax, of the structure of sentences; the branch of grammar dealing with the functions of the alphabetic letters is usually treated along with the phonology;

I mean, duh. The dangling semi-colon is a nice touch, too. As the others seem to be subsets, I will accept "grammar" and "spelling" as the two components of written language.

(13) I use w/r/t when taking notes, but: I feel strongly that I only need it because it exists. Meaning, ... )

FYI, all of you are wrong-- it's the "You Learn" video where she wanders around firetrucks.

We are in a horrible muddle. So:

"You Learn" - walking around firetrucks
"Thank You, India" - walking around1 naked
Jagged Little Pill - Pay attention to typography, Nina! I am clearly talking about an album, not a "song." The tracks I have possessed: "Head Over Feet," "Ironic," "You Oughta Know," "Hand in my Pocket" - 4 of 12, or one third.

Also, I was about to jump on Nina for leaving out (11), before I realized she had chosed to count you schooling my mom.

1. English is awesome. "Hi, my name is around! I'm a preposition and an adverb."

14) Duh, "Thank you, India" isn't even on Jagged Little Pill. It's on supposed former infatuation junkie. What are you, tophaceous or something?

15) I am giggling hysterically at your subscript:

English is awesome. "Hi, my name is around! I'm a preposition and an adverb."

The friend who is currently sharing this room with me: "I'm going to put my headphones on now. It's not you. No, who am I kidding? It is."

To further drive up your comment count, although this post happened yesterday and I'm not sure anyone will see it, I would like to second the olives in omelettes thing. As a matter of fact, I had that for dinner tonight.

Also, your footnote about the word around. nice. Not only is he a preposition and an adverb, but he's a talking word!

Loving the Indian wedding dress, and of course your astronomy dorkiness ;)

I hate you for making me want K-bob. I need to go eat Greek right now.

What's up with my not getting a shout out for reading over your presentation at midnight to quell your fears? Huh? Do you think my editing skills are free?! Bad friend! ;)

Oops, I almost forgot...mad props to Typography. I love the ability to differentiate an album from a song. And you for mentioning it :)
