Words and Pictures (Southern Hemisphere edition).

Argentina, as my hostess suggested, was a pretty great place to visit. Sure, boarding a plane these days is basically asking to be worked over with brass knuckles by a surly gate agent - and United did not shirk its duty, thank you extra day in DC with no compensation - and I managed to pick up some kind of... lung thing prior to my return. Is astoundingly jealous that you actually got to order dulce de leche, like reallys. gabbiana August 12 2008, 02:53:34 UTC
Perhaps Google Maps does not cover Argentina because it is worried it will be kidnapped and held for ransom in the highlands and worked over by thugs to within an inch of its life multiple times before finally succumbing to vitamin deficiency and sepsis. Or is that just Columbia?

(You may know nothing about South America, but I am *proud* to be both ignorant and actively stereotyping.)

I will comment on your photos... sometime that is not now (maybe), having clicked through all of them yesterday, but: I love the patterned mountainousness that is that chicken, and also the other picture of the chickens (emus? ostriches?) where dude on the right is righteous-pissed at dude on the left for stealing his grains. I never knew birds could be so expressive, what with their beady soulless eyes.

In other news, I am *all about* the steak. Yesterday for dinner I broiled .88 pounds of ribeye and then ate it all. And I do not regret it for a moment.

Probably I should go to Argentina.

Do I reply to myself? Very well then, I reply to myself. gabbiana August 13 2008, 00:23:51 UTC
Oh, but hey: WHY ARE THERE NO PICTURES OF CAPYBARAS?

O capybaras, my capybaras (?) byelka58 August 13 2008, 01:45:27 UTC
Apparently they do not come down to the sea, nor onto the menus of restaurants near the sea. They do reach cramped, traditional leather-goods shops (I feel like I already described it to someone, possibly you) in the form of gloves and wallets, but they turn out to yield suede, rather than leather, and I do not want gloves that can't get wet. Also the pair I tried on tinged my hands black.

What I should have purchased, in terms of animal products that can be gotten through customs, is one of the items worked in cow hide with the hair still on. Jen found a fanastic laptop bag, for example, in a vivid black-and-white, which she promised to go back and buy later. There's nothing like a bold graphic object you can pet.

Once I get my next round of grant money, I'm heading back to Recoleta for that bag.

It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine.

I know - did you see that tea cosy? Like a melting yarn strawberry? All the other tables had them in shades of blue, to match the china, but not us. Clearly a sign - it's just that the town was so small I didn't think I could avoid capture... plus I had consumed roughly a pound of buttered foodstuffs.

Sorry for not commenting sooner. It was definitely good times having you here and I can only hope your enthusiasm gets others to visit.

Can I link your photo albums to my other blog? I frankly hate putting together albums (ranks right up there with pairing and folding socks, and putting footnotes in their proper format), and I like what you did with yours. Let me know.

And if you're looking for something to do with your remaining vacation days and sick leave, Evan and I will be in Rio with other peeps for Thanksgiving. We can both not understand Portuguese together!

Of course! Link away.

I'm about to go dig through your post to see what you have up - mostly, I'm hoping for more chickens, because everyone seems to love the chicken pictures. Cows would also be good. Oh, and your shawl! Somehow I took not a single picture of it, unless we count the hyperexposed one in the Gaiman hostel. And even then, I think you're graphing it, not actually knitting.

But anyway. Everyone: VISIT JEN! She will make it worth your while.
