Personally, I agree with you on the innocuous compliments bit. Actually, just the one you mentioned. It seems a bit creepy to me as well, like he himself is trying to be witty despite the fact that he hasn't a witty bone in his body.

If you ever go to visit Skrmetti, though, I'm sure you could find a corn field to play in........

I should say that earlier in the conversation he'd expressed a (casual, non-threatening) desire to meet me in person sometime, which put him on the express train to GetBackville. Really I have no business having an OKC account at all.

You're right about the corn field and Skrmish, though; in fact, that's the context of the original e-mail. Great minds, etc.

In my opinion, anyone who OPENS a conversation with a complete stranger by saying "I'm the geek you're looking for" is just a tad bit full of themselves. Then again, he's undoubtedly empowered by the whole "I can talk to you without looking you in the eye" thing about the internet.

By the way, how do you that cool linking thing in the middle of a sentence and all?

I am delighted to inform. Get going on your sentence, and then when you reach [a href="http://www.hereisawebsite.com"]the words you want to link with[/a], do that.

Except use < instead of [ and > instead of ]. The end result will be something like this.

You are right that the internet is a bad place (well, that's what we were getting at, anyway). I edited my OKC account to read that I am only looking for friends and penpals, since I do not seem to be looking for long- or short-term dating. In fact, implied dating freaks me right out.
