Viva technology!

After a year of carrying the work laptop home every day, and eight years after I last got a new-to-me computer (only a year old at that point and with extra-good specs for that time, 2GB RAM and almost 2GHz single-core processor), I finally have a new personal machine. Thankfully one of the Very Shiny Things about Windows 7 (which is very shiny in general) is that you can download a US Windows 7 ISO DVD image from Microsoft itself for your appropriate Win7 subvariant, burn it to DVD, then install it over your Strange Language with the same OEM product key, for free except for the next 5 hours you'll spend installing all Windows Updates and drivers. I just about did a victory dance when I figured it out.

Ooooh, CONGRATULATIONS! May you take great advantage of the new toy!

Non-English Microsoft products are evil and should be BANNED! When I got Kali, one of the guys from the online store called to make sure I hadn't ordered the English version of Windows 7 by mistake. I promptly pointed out to him that I am in no particular rush to tear my eyes out every time I turned on my laptop. He also wanted to confirm I can install Windows on my own, because for some reason three quarters of the computer-literate male population believes women are hopeless at this technology thing. (My actual answer: "In my sleep, kid, in my sleep!")

Also, Happy Birthday for tomorrow, in case I'm not around!
