Blue jeans rage

May 06, 2007 14:27

I'm quite tempted to fire off an angry e-mail or two to Glamour and Elle. They've been gushing for a year about how mid-to-high-waist skinny jeans are all the rage, with straight-leg being the other acceptable option, about how they flatter curves and should have angled pockets and thin stretch denim for best effect ( Read more... )

blather, rant, real life

That's my problem. Curves :/ Stupid guys' jeans always gape at the waist. Plus, I am really not in possession of a guy's behind ;)

What I really should do is go to London and shop where the black girls shop... that's my figure.

Skinny jeans look best on very skinny people, as far as I can tell. Of course, by the time the Polish distributors catch up, they'll be out of fashion.

Do you have some jeans that you like and in which the manufacturer has an on-line store? That might be your best bet.

Or you could wait until you hit Berlin, which is another option, unless you need new clothes *right* now because your old jeans are coming apart at the seams.

I do have a halfway decent pair of black Marks&Spencer's skinny jeans, of all things, though certain deficiencies mean I need to wear them with boots and a longer top to hide the unfortunate back pockets. I could also haul out my old pair of River Islands - flare-leg and majorly distressed in a skeleton-like pattern, but they make my legs and backside stop traffic :)

It's nothing major, but a definite annoyance. Trouser and shoe manufacturers got the memo that some Polish girls are taller than 5'5". Wonder how long it'll take the jeans people to catch up.

(And in the meantime, I'm eyeing a few pairs from Victoria's Secret. Too bad the shipping charges on their return policy for overseas would probably cost me more than the jeans...)

My generous booty fits the size 34 or (lately, yay!) 33 "Loyal" jeans at H&M quite well - that line has a raised back to cover your butt but on the front it goes up only to the point that minimizes your belly. The legs are bootcut.

...I can't fit in any of the other lines, though. ¬_¬;;

As for the upper part of the body, I've recently discovered that Esprit has very nice t-shirts at adequate sizes and prices.

Thanks - I have high hopes for H&M and will check out that line, if only the legs are long enough :)

For some reason I can never find anything for myself at the local Esprit, though I owe a ton of their vintage stuff. I think they just don't put the cool things in the Polish shops.

Good luck with that. They're usually a bit too long for me, but I'm 1'70m with a long torso.

This might be a stupid question but River Island is designer?^^

Price-wise over here, at least - 2 to 3 times as expensive as H&M and such, and up to 6 times as expensive as generic supermarket jeans. Plus they have nothing plain, just weird bits all over. (Fits like a glove, though. Curse them!)

I was just surprised since I always look at their stuff but can never find anything that looks remotely normal to be worn by women who aren't models. So expensive+weird= designer. Apparently^^

Once you try those clothes on though, they're immensely flattering, at least to people with my figure :) I have a few bits and pieces that tend to make guys do a triple-take.
