Firstly, I shouldn't have come within five miles of a keyboard yesterday. My judgement was botched and I should have been more sensitive, sensible and generally brighter than something that grows on bread. To everyone I may have offended, baffled and otherwise upset - I would like to apologise ( Read more... )

They still have the glass cabinets of surgical instruments in the underground hospital? I maybe accidentally ended up telling people all about what they'd've been used for last time I was down there. IDEK; this medical stuff just spills out of me at the most socially awkward and inappropriate moments.

Boy, yes! Shedloads of them. I'm a bit fascinated by the local newspapers lying on the tables; they're all about places that aren't here anymore and then they whomp you with photographs of strangely familiar roads that are wrong somehow. Uh, it says something about the town when I say that bombed out gaps are normal.

I tried to point out that there is actually 7.5 miles of tunnel under the castle and the publicly open wartime tunnels only account for 4 miles. (Some of it is the medieval stuff with Napoleonic upgrades of varying degrees of lethality) I don't kid when I say I like earthworks and tunnels. I think the (deceptively) short and creepy girl disconcerted the Americans. Inappropriate knowledge, thy name is buzzylittleb!

One of the little ones found it way too scary.

Good, I wasn't online yesterday :)
I can't imagine you offending other people. Must have been a really bad day. :)
Your visit today however sounds nice. I am just wondering why you went to the underground hospital again if you had been there before? Just to check if everything was still alright or did you show visitors around?
What kind of reports are you writing? That word can contain many different tasks...
Wish you fun with your stitching kit - besides: Be a rebel, use non-defined colours :)

They hadn't opened up the hospital complex when I first "did" the tunnels (I was about 9 or 10, I think). They used the hospital building as cover for constructing the other floors. I was last in the castle when I was writing a long essay about the evolution of the defences. There is a hell of a lot of castle - continuous military use for the last 1000 years does that -and you can't really do it in a day. I did talk to some American tourists but I think I creeped them out a little. Some day, I shall have a more appreciative audience, you ( ... )
