Advice Please

I am considering resigning my job before finding a new job.  I think doing this would mean i would have more time and more motivation to actively do something about finding work

Don't do it - do what Trav does and search for jobs in your spare time then take time off if you need to go to interviews or quit once you have a bunch of interviews lined up. No point quitting til you at least know whether a job will be easy or difficult to get.

agree with the above. unless you're job is making you seriously unhappy, start properly searching for something else while you're still getting paid, go to a few interview and get a feel for what's out there. no point risking a stint of unemployment of unknown length if you dont have to. you might find it so easy to find a job that you get something lined up before you quit, or you might find that the market is a bit dead and quitting now might not be the greatest idea. it's worth knowing more before quitting IMO.

Search, resume and interview whilst you're at your current job.

I'm not the kind of person to hang around in a job i dont like a day longer than I want, but I wouldnt say its the right move for everyone. The responsible thing to do is find something to move onto before you quit. You might think you've got plenty of money saved up but take it from someone who has spent the better part of a year unemployed and on centrelink on more than one occasion - you'll go thru it faster than you think, when there's nothing coming in its amazing how fast those numbers drop
