I really enjoyed Sunshine as well. It was funny, it obviously got a much larger release in the UK, and earlier as well since it was getting released on DVD while I was there last week and they were actually supporting the release with TV commercials!

What I can't figure out is that how a studio would spend that much money to make a movie like that (it was obviously not a budget picture), but then decides not to back it more than they did in the states, and after what was a successful run in the UK?

I checked Box Office Mojo last night to see how it's done. $3.5M here, $28.1M overseas (um, everywhere but here).

My guess is that although the cast is strong, there's nobody major in it you could hang a major wide release on. I am still a little surprised they didn't get a limited release out of it, instead of just the art-house circuit. It's got pretty high production value, and it's still sci-fi.

So are you stateside now? If so, welcome back! You're just in time to experience this lovely heat wave. Inferno, if you're in the Valley, from what I've heard. I refuse to investigate it myself.

yup, got back last night and got kind of a feeling for it as it was still hot at 9pm... I'm in Pasadena, so over 100 again today... guess it's good, will shake the ice out of me from Scotland... (wasn't bad bag, but in a sweater or light jacket for most of the trip).

Ice? Cool air?

Hmm... maybe I ought to hide out in Scotland until October...
