I have decided to get back in shape, and feel happier with the way I look, since I don't currently like my appearance. It will help my excessive back pain I deal with every day, from an old back injury I received back in 2005. It will also help my recent knee injury, I have been recovering from the past 10 months ( Read more... )

As a nutritionist, I don't condone counting calories alone as a weight loss plan unless there are extenuating circumstances. It can help with communicating with doctors if diet and exercise aren't working and other circumstances need to be checked though, so it's not pointless to have that information available with other stats like protein/fat/carb mix and basic nutrients that affect metabolism and fat storage ( ... )

Talk to John about the diet he and I do. it might work out better than what you are currently doing because you count carbs and proteins per meal versus calories per day. and 1700 seems a little high. I'm think you should be doing more like 12-1500 and lower it. You can eat quite well for even 1000 calories, just ask mom, she's down 70 pounds at last count

That is true, I will talk to John. My concern with less or even more calories is over doing it or under doing it. I don't want my body to think it's being starved, and have it go in to storing mode where it has been going in and out of the past few years.

I have beed at a steady weight being under 200lbs, but I would be happier being 60lbs lighter with my back, but for now I'm just going for 20-25lbs as a starting goal.

I don't want to feel like I'm failing, or go back to yo-yoing if it doesent stick. my main goal is to actuly eat more then 1 to 2 meals a day. I need to be eating at least 3 to 5 in order for me to funtion normaly. Doing this will also help with my migraines, as well as making me feel less lethargic, because I will have a better nutrition intake, due to the fact that I'm actualy eating more regularly.

the basics of what John and I are on and which I have to go back to and stop cheating on is 25g carbs/15g protein/5g fat 5-6 times a day. basically every 3 hours it keeps the metabolism going rather than let it starve between meals.

Mom combined that philosophy with 1000 calories a day and that's how she lost her weight (well working out too, but you get that idea)
