He knew he had hurt her, but for a moment he didn’t care. She had done the one thing he had never expected to have happen: she had broken his heart. He wasn’t even sure he had much of a heart, to be honest, but somehow she had won his and as quickly as she had done that, she had broken it.
He had destroyed her life as quickly as he could after that. No, he hadn’t done it immediately after, but he had done it quickly when the time came, and then she had come there, seeking his friendship, his kindness, all when she deserved none of it. And though the part of him that still adored her wanted to be there for her, to make her feel loved, he had been more consumed by his own hurt to bother thinking of hers.
So, when she had come to him, broken and hurt he had turned her away. He had hurt her in the best way he knew how.
Late on he would probably regret it, but at that moment he felt a cruel satisfaction like he had never felt before.
And it felt good.
