She pretended she wasn’t watching him. There was no reason she would be watching him, of course, she didn’t want anyone to think she was. Instead she looked everywhere but him, pretending to be interested in the people around her that she normally wouldn’t pay attention to in order to further the notion that she wasn’t in fact watching him.
Deep down she knew they all could tell she was looking at him- or perhaps it was her paranoia speaking. She couldn’t be sure. Either was she avoided letting anyone know she had become fascinated with this boy that normally would have disgusted her. She was utterly enamored in him, she admitted to herself privately. Still, she was determined to pretend she cared nothing for him.
Until he met her eyes.
Then she was sure he knew.
