It was fast to get easily bored at school these days. The life of a high school senior wasn’t all that interesting.
The first hints of a warm spring were starting to show and all Kame wanted to do was lie down on the rooftop and take naps, so he often skipped class to do just that. Most of the times, he’d skip English class. He never liked it much anyway.
In the mid of one of his afternoon naps, the bell rang, signaling the end of classes.
Kame rubbed the sleep from his eyes and quickly gathering his things, fled to the main gate, hoping he wouldn’t cross paths with his teacher and consequently being told off.
Such thing didn’t happen, but in a rush, he bumped into someone in the line to freedom and stumbled back.
“Watch it, kid,” the other growled, his eyes looking Kame superiorly.
The man’s depthless eyes bore into Kame’s from beneath dark locks that framed his face, hair curling waywardly in a wild manner, before the man hastened his pace and took off.
Kame didn’t even think about apologizing, the word asshole swirling in his mind.
That had been his first impression of Jin, until said person turned around and something akin to a white fur ball with ears popped out from under his coat which was too warm for spring anyway.
“Do you happen to know someone who can keep a kitty?”
Kame looked around, wondering if the other was really talking to him, but spotting no one else around and a stern look fixed on him, he concluded the other was addressing him indeed “Uh, I know I can’t keep it,” he answered, caught by surprise when the kitten the other held close to him mewed silently.
Something seemed to flash in the other’s eyes, but Kame couldn’t quite put a finger on what it was, due to the few meters keeping them apart.
The tall man’s features softened and he smiled sadly at the cute animal and petted its fur “Don’t worry, I’ll find you an owner.”
Maybe even the wildest of creatures could get tamed. That had brought on, Kame’s second impression of Jin.
“M-maybe Koki can keep him, though. He loves animals,” Kame voiced out loud.
Something seemed to brighten up in the other “I’d really like that.”
Kame didn’t know how it had happened, but a few meetings with Jin, a new cat on Koki’s part and a lot of goofy grins from the older man later, had Kame and Jin become friends with benefits in mere weeks.
***
No matter how much he tried to muffle the sounds coming from the door, the banging only got louder and even the pillow couldn’t keep him from the annoying rap on the wood.
He growled in annoyance “I’m going, I’m going!”
Putting a pair of sweatpants on, Jin stumbled to the entrance, swinging the door open.
“What’s with that hair? You just woke up now?” Jin growled again. Why did the damn kid have to go to his house and make water out of his brain? “You stink too.”
“Is that what you woke me up for?”
“You said you’d let me copy your English essay, remember?” Kamenashi pointed out, walking inside and past Akanishi, throwing his bag onto the bed and making himself home.
“…Right.”
Kame arched an eyebrow “I can’t believe you forgot.”
“I didn’t,” Jin defended “It’s on the computer. Just copy it and get out. I’ll be sleeping if you need something.”
“Thanks. You’re of great help,” Kame shot sarcastically.
Akanishi ignored him, plopping down lifelessly on the mattress.
“Is this your essay from back then? I don’t know if I couldn’t do better than this. And you said you were good in English,” Kame huffed.
“Hey, I said I liked it, not that I was good at it,” Jin defended, his voice muffled by the pillow, not bothering to explain he intended to borrow Yamapi’s to show Kame, but he had totally forgotten.
“Why do you party until so late…or early” Kame corrected himself “in the morning, anyway?”
Jin, too drained to move, just turned his head to the side so his voice was projected a little better “The advantages of being an adult and doing whatever you want with your own life. You’ll realize the fun in it when you grow a little bit more, kid.”
Kame hated when Akanishi treated him superiorly and looked down on him as a kid. He hated how he never managed to make the other stop thinking about the age difference between them except when it came to other issues. At that time, Akanishi would never once mention Kame being underage.
“I don’t ever want to be an adult like you,” Kame muttered, but loud enough so Jin’d hear him, however, there was no comeback to his comment.
He looked over his shoulder to find the older man sleeping peacefully on the bed “Don’t fall asleep while people are talking to you, stupid,” Kame said, slightly pissed off, but he couldn’t erase the tranquil feeling that was brought upon him as he watched the other’s chest rise and fall steadily against the bed, and how much it calmed to listen to the soft wheezing sound.
A beige blanket winked at him from where it was lying at Jin’s feet. Kame picked it up, glancing at Jin’s sleeping half-naked form, then wrapped the blanket around himself.
“Just go and catch a cold, you irresponsible adult,” he huffed. He wasn’t a damn girl to be having those kinds of sappy thoughts. It made him sick.
***
Jin stretched his sore limbs, bumping into something that supposedly shouldn’t be there. He slowly opened his eyes, blinking several times to adjust to the daylight, only to find himself facing a sleeping Kame.
He propped himself up on his elbow, causing the light blanket to slide down his torso “When did this get here?” he wondered aloud to himself, flicking his eyes once more to the sleeping figure “You aren’t that scary when you’re sleeping. Just another adorable kid,” he poked Kame’s right cheek, smiling quite fondly.
Even though they had slept together quite a few times, Jin didn’t remember ever waking up to find Kame beside him.
Kame stirred, fluttering his eyes open “Finally awake, sleeping beauty.”
“Who are you calling sleeping beauty?” Kame asked, displeased, voice sleep-laden.
“Groggy as ever,” Jin huffed, standing up and picking up one of his shirts from the floor, putting it on “Want breakfast?”
“Breakfast…” Kame repeated, the word suddenly clicking in his mind “Shit, what time is it?”
“Uh…8, 9 in the morning. I don’t know,” Jin answered uninterestedly.
Kame let out a string of profanities, gathering his things “Classes are starting. I have to go. You should have woken me up earlier!”
“Yeah, sure. Blame everything on Akanishi.”
Kame ignored him, dashing out the door as soon as he had his things with him.
“You’re welcome for the English essay,” Jin called out after Kame, sighing in exasperation “Ungrateful kid,” he had just turned around when the door swung open again “Oh, at least you have the decency to come back and than-”
“It’s pouring outside. Lend me an umbrella,” Jin’s mouth hung open for a few seconds, then he turned around, ignoring the other and settling for rummaging in the fridge, looking for something to eat that wasn’t stale yet.
“Akanishi, did you hear me?”
“I don’t have one.”
“Then give me a ride to school.”
“No,” was his downright refusal.
“Come on,” Kame insisted.
“No.”
“Akanishi!” Kame shouted, pressing his back to the fridge’s door so it closed and he was face to face with the man “I don’t have time for games. I’m late for class. Just give me a damn ride. It’s not like it kills you.”
Annoyed, Jin slammed his palms on each side of Kame’s head “Well, I have a game for you. What do you give me in return for the ride?”
“You’re not getting any sex, if that’s what you’re implying,” Kame pointed.
“Then just a kiss,” Jin’s features immediately softened, acquiring that childish air he usually sported.
“For someone who calls himself an adult, you sound like an elementary school girl,” Kame commented with a smirk, causing Jin’s eyebrow to twitch in aggravation.
“Why do you always have an retort for everything?”
“Because I’m smart,” Kame stated quite proudly, smiling rather smugly.
“Whatever,” the taller man pushed Kame aside so he could pull the milk carton out of the fridge “I don’t have a car right now. It’s being fixed in a garage.”
“And you’re making me waste my time?” Kame almost felt like killing Jin at that moment “Did you crash it against something when you were drunk?”
“No! I-”
“You know what, forget it. I’ll just run,” Kame immediately interrupted, not giving Jin time to even explain, and fled out of the apartment once more.
“How does this kid always manage me to piss me off?” he asked himself, gulping down the milk, when his eyes rested on the window “Shit, it really is pouring outside.”
***
Kame shivered, hugging his own body in hope for shielding of the unforgivable chilly breeze “I really can’t go anywhere with this rain,” he whispered to himself, feeling the wet clothes uncomfortably sticking to his body.
He had only gotten as far as the closest café’s awning, sheltering himself from the enraged rain, pouring down restlessly.
“You’ll catch a cold,” he heard a familiar voice coming from behind him when he felt something weight on his shoulders, and turned around to find a drenched Akanishi who draped him with a coat.
“I don’t need this,” he shoved the coat back at Akanishi “Why did you come?”
“I thought I’d join you, seeing who got more drenched.”
“Idiot,” Kame said, both of them not opening their mouths then.
A disturbing silence settled, only the rhythmical rap of the rain falling down being heard.
From the corner of his eye, Kame caught a glimpse of Akanishi who was staring intently at him “What?” he queried.
“Nothing.”
“You can’t kiss me,” Kame said, watching as Jin twitched. Bull’s eye?
“Who’d want to kiss you? You’re so not cute!” Jin huffed, crossing his arms defensively.
“Yeah, right,” Kame chuckled.
“Why are you laughing?” Jin asked, a vein threatening to pop in his forehead. Damn kid.
“Hey, Kame…”
“Hm?” Kame made the mistake of turning around, having lips crashing down on his almost instantly.
Jin massaged his lips against Kame’s, planting a hand on the back of the latter’s head so he wouldn’t turn away, savoring the pouty lips, but not for long as Kame pushed him away rather roughly.
“What the hell?! We’re in the middle of the street!” Kame shouted, checking in every direction if anyone had seen them. It was Jin’s turn to smirk.
“Come on, let’s go back. I’ll lend you some dry clothes. We’ll really catch a cold if we stay here, when we’re just a few steps away from a warm and dry place,” Jin insisted, and without even answering, Kame set off in Jin’s apartment’s direction “Ka-me-na-shi! Don’t ignore me!”
Five minutes later, they were back in Jin’s apartment “There you have some dry clothes,” Jin offered, setting a pair of grey sweatpants and a white shirt over his bed.
“Sure, but I’m not changing with you here looking.”
Jin snorted “As if I didn’t see you naked more than a few times.”
“But it’s different,” Kame still opposed.
“Shut up and just change,” Jin grabbed the clothes, throwing them at Kame’s face.
The younger boy didn’t even have time to react to what unveiled in front of him so fast, the falling clothes uncovering his vision to find Akanishi so close, pushing him down on the bed.
“Akanishi, not today,” he protested, hands fisted in Akanishi’s shirt and pushing him away.
Jin leaned in, biting Kame’s earlobe “Why not?” he whispered in the smaller boy’s ear, warm air cascading his skin that prickled as he shivered involuntarily.
“Because I say so.”
“And I say ‘yes, today’,” Akanishi shot back, sealing his lips over Kamenashi’s before the latter could protest again, and the grip on his shirt loosened, arms wrapping around his neck instead.
***
When Akanishi had woken up that afternoon, as always, Kamenashi was already gone.
For the next weeks, they hadn’t met at all, and the two times he had happened to see Kame, the latter had avoided him like the plague.
To say he was getting a little pissed off at the situation was an understatement. If Kamenashi was mad, he could just say so, instead, three weeks later, he got a message from him, asking Jin to meet him after classes.
Akanishi got fashionably, he convinced himself, late, and when he got there, Kame was seating on the table on the very back of the café, leisurely leaning back against the seat as he drank his juice.
The boy didn’t seem to notice his presence until he sat down in front of him.
“What’s up?”
Kamenashi seemed to reflect a while before he opened his mouth “I’m pregnant with your child.”
If Jin was drinking something, he’d have choked, but since he wasn’t, his only reaction was to burst into laughter “Are you kidding me? You’re a guy. What, Kamenashi? Had a little stomach flu and got confused?” he joked.
He wasn’t able to rip the smallest smile out of Kamenashi who kept stern “You’ve heard in the news about guys getting pregnant, right?”
Jin’s jaw fell “Y-yeah, b-but…there’re so little of them. I never thought that…”
“Yeah, 38 to be exact. I’m the 39th registered case of man pregnancy,” he said calmly, taking a sip of his orange juice.
It took Jin a little over a minute to digest everything Kame had said “You’re not kidding…” he concluded.
“My parents want to meet you. And you’re moving in with us. I hope you don’t have any objection.”
Jin wanted to answer, say he didn’t, because he had wanted to be a young and present father, but he was still too shocked to reply.
“Take responsibility for what you did. You can start by paying the bill,” Kame threw him a brief fake smile, picking up his bag and walking off, leaving Jin to gap alone.
How had things become like that?
***
By the end of the week, Jin finished moving in.
Kame’s parents gave him weird looks, and while they spoiled Kamenashi too much, he’d get all the house chores and unpleasant words.
He kind of accepted it for them to hold a grudge against him for impregnating their baby son. Kind of, because it was too much giving him a torn futon to sleep on.
The first two nights, he couldn’t sleep at all with the horrible stench to mothballs, and it didn’t matter how much he tossed and turned in the futon of hell, sleep didn’t seem to be his friend.
Not that the flimsy blanket they had supplied him helped him get cozy. It’d be pure luck if he managed not to die of cold and sick with the awful smell.
The third night, he finally managed to get some sleep, after leaving the futon to air during the day, but that still didn’t cover for the holes in it.
When he finally ventured to ask for another futon, he was immediately rejected.
"I was wondering if you don't have another futon," he said carefully.
"It's family heirloom. It was Kazuya's grandma's futon," Kame's mom said, outraged.
"It's a futon," Jin felt the need to remark.
"And the only one we have. Take it or sleep on the floor," Jin pouted, having no other choice but to accept.
Since Kamenashi was pregnant, all the house chores were thrown to him.
He’d wash the dishes, clean the bathroom, make the beds, sweep the whole house and wash the clothes.
However, his misfortunes didn’t end there.
“Kamenashi! I had just swept there!” Jin whined, pointing at the crumbles from the cookies Kame was currently devouring.
“Oh, sorry. I didn’t notice,” Kame said innocently.
“You’ll get fat eating so much,” he spat like poison, watching amusedly as Kame’s eyes hardened.
“What are you saying?” Jin froze at female Kamenashi’s voice “It’s because you’ve gotten him pregnant that he needs to eat this much,” Mrs. Kamenashi said, clasping her son’s wrist, causing the cookie he was holding to fall on the ground, disappearing into endless crumbles “Oh, I’m sorry Akanishi. I hope you hadn’t swept here yet,” she offered sarcastically, striding off and taking Kame with her.
Jin cursed her repeatedly in his head, fuming “Now I know how Cinderella felt with the evil sisters and stepmother around.”
Life with the Kamenashi’s was hard.
He’d always wake up in the morning and find that everyone was gone, either for school or work, not even leaving him a note nor breakfast. He didn't expect to be treated like family, but they could at least try to get along with him. Jin’d always go out to buy his own breakfast at the convenience store.
***
On a certain Sunday, Jin woke up to the sound of retching and groaned in exasperation. When would he ever have a good night of sleep?
"Kamenashi-san, Kazuya is throwing up again," he yelled from the living room, but got no answer, just the same pitiful retching sound and the toilet flushing repetitively "Kamenashi-san?" he tried again, but no answer sounded back.
Deciding he couldn't sleep anymore, he finally stood up, dreading what he'd see while striding to the bathroom.
He found Kame fallen on the ground, hugging the toilet.
The boy lifted his head to glance at Jin, wet traces of tears on his cheeks, eyes swollen in his pale countenance.
"Are you ok?" Jin asked uncertainly.
"Leave," Kame spat the disyllabic word, seeming ready to throw up again.
"I can't leave you like that. It seems like no one else is home."
Kame bent his head over the toilet again and everything that's left on his stomach came out. Jin gently placed a hand on Kame's forehead to keep him from hitting his head somewhere as the strong vomits came and soothed a hand up and down the latter's back.
Behind that smug and confident expression, laid a frail Kamenashi, one that Jin rarely saw.
He just hoped the boy would open up to him a little more.
When Kame was a little calmer, feeling slightly relieved, he pushed Jin away rather roughly.
"Come on, don't be such a hard-head. I'm the only one here able to help you," he wrapped an arm around Kame's back and helped him up. Though the younger boy was slightly reluctant at first, he finally let himself be guided to his room and put down on the bed.
“Do you need anything?” Kame just shook his head, probably too tired to let out one of his smart-ass remarks “If you do, call me. You know you can always do that if there’s something missing. I’m responsible for that baby and for you, so don’t try to put me apart.”
Kame only buried himself under the covers as a response and Jin sighed, walking to the door.
“Jin?” Jin froze, hearing his muffled name leave the younger boy’s lips for the first time “Thanks…” he could only smile, closing the door behind him.
The chores of hell didn’t seem like such a difficult task that day.
***
“Why are you frowning?” Jin questioned, pulling Kame by the wrist, seeing Kame refused to hold hands with him and Jin insisted they’d get lost in the middle of so many people. Kame trailed behind him with a pout adorning his face.
“Do you think I’d be happy? We’re in the middle of the damn spring and I have to wear all these layers of clothes. I’m in a fucking oven, here.”
The older boy felt the urge to point down people were bound to discover, seeing two guys shopping for babies’ clothes. Besides, soon, Kame would have to leave the school and it’d be inevitable for everyone to figure it out.
“It could be different if you didn’t mind showing off your tummy, which by the way looks beautiful if you ask me,” Kame huffed and strode faster, intent on leaving Jin behind, but if the latter had looked closely, he’d have seen the pink hue staining Kame’s cheeks.
“I don’t understand why you want to shop for babies’ clothes this early. We don’t even know if it’s a girl or boy yet.”
Jin inflated his cheeks, a rather childish gesture that made Kame laugh even when he tried to hold it in “Don’t blame a parent for being excited.”
“You get too easily excited,” Kame accused, shoving his hands in his pockets and striding off.
“Kame, wait! We’ll get separa-oh hey, look! So cute,” Jin immediately put a break to his run, pointing at a tiny yellow frilly dress with a flower pattern.
Kame strode back to Jin’s side, watching the latter’s eyes shine with enthusiasm.
Maybe the idea of spending the rest of his life with this guy wasn’t so hard to fit in his reality.
***
Kame tried to control his breath, being rolled down the long corridor over a mattress and hoped he’d have time to get to a room at least before his stomach exploded.
The contractions were getting stronger and stronger, so as Jin's hold in his hand, assuring him that everything would be alright.
But then the pain was just too strong "Kamenashi, push," the nurse encouraged but he's in too much pain to care about what the hell she's saying.
"You come here and push, bitch! This hurts like hell!" he cursed, breathed raggedly in and out and fell back to the mattress again.
"Kazuya, calm down," Jin tried.
"Don't tell me to fucking calm down, you motherfucker. It's not you who has this little monster inside you!" Kame barked, the tears threatening to leave his eyes. The pain was just unbearable and Jin seemed to know it, the nurse seemed to know it, because no matter how loud he cursed them, no one paid him any heed.
Kame growled when another contraction hit him and he sat up again, trying to force the baby out before slumping down tiredly on the mattress again to catch his breath.
"There's the head Kamenashi. Just a little bit more."
Jin squeezed his hand "Kazuya, it's the head!" he said excitedly.
"This is all your fault. I swear when this ends, I'll show you the pain of having a baby," he promised, but was smiling despite his threat.
The loud cry of the baby was like a hard slap on his face and his eyes flew open. Kame found himself on his bed, drenched in sweat.
Lifting the covers up, there was his barely-round belly. It was all a nightmare. But then, something popped to his mind.
Where the hell would the baby get out from?
***
Around six weeks after moving in, Jin was able to buy his stay in Kame's bedroom, though still having to sleep on the futon from hell. Indeed all the Kamenashis hated him, even the deceased grandma for leaving such a futon behind.
Two more weeks passed. Jin had worked hard in keeping his cool, making his own breakfast every day, sleeping in the worn out futon, and he had finally earned the place beside Kazuya’s bed, in a decent futon, at least.
Though the night was far from letting him have a good rest when the faint sound of rustling of clothes and bed sheets been thrown around reached his ears.
“Are you feeling ok?” he turned around so he was facing the bed. It just felt right to do while he was talking with the younger boy.
“Do I seem like it?” was the whispered reply.
“Something hurts?” Jin didn’t need an answer when the other groaned audibly and trashed in the bed.
“My stomach, the baby? I don’t know…”
“Did you eat something that might have made you sick?” Jin queried, voice laced with uncovered worry.
“I ate the same as you and I don’t see you looking sick, do I?” annoyance was clear in Kazuya’s tone, but Jin shrugged off the other’s crankiness as part of pregnancy.
“Maybe your mom mixed our food and you ended up eating the poisoned food I was suppose to get,” Jin gasped as the thought hit him.
“Jin! You’re not making it any better!”
Actually, Kazuya felt stupid for even reconsidering Jin’s words, though there was a possibility his mom would want to poison Jin. What if he was going to die and he had even been murdered by his own family. The pain came back stronger and he was forced out of his ludicrous thoughts and back to his current situation.
Then there was something soft, icy, yet comfortable that splayed on his bare belly.
“Jin, what are you doing?” the bed shifted beside him where a sharp knee dug before Jin made himself comfortable in front of him, his hand running in circular motions over his belly.
“Sorry, this is all I can do…” Jin sounded so insecure that Kazuya felt a sense of pity bloom inside him.
“Your hand is cold,” he commented, the pain miraculously easing away.
“Try sleeping on that damn thin futon on the concrete floor and we’ll see if you can get warm.”
“Can’t do. I’m pregnant,” he stated, but laughed anyway. His parents really didn’t let Jin have it easy, and so far, he hadn’t done anything to change it.
Silence fell over them, neither saying a word, the awful quietness of the room leaving Jin a little bothered as the only thing heard were their own steady breaths.
It was Kazuya who finally broke the silence with another groan.
“Is it hurting again?” Jin questioned to receive a low ‘no’.
The younger boy felt kind of frustrated because Jin’s thumb had joined the motion over his skin that somehow felt hypersensitive to the other’s touch and his lower anatomy was starting to act up, which made him want to smack himself for getting horny at such a time.
He hoped Jin wouldn’t feel his excitement against his leg or something.
Jin’s hand had grown warm.
“Do you ever feel it kicking?” Jin asked, like an excited parent would.
“No,” Kame replied “I don’t think it even has feet yet,” he added as an afterthought.
Jin pondered and maybe Kazuya was right. Maybe his members weren’t yet completely defined. But he wanted it to have feet soon so he could kick inside Kazuya and become a good football player once he was out.
“I’ve always wanted kids,” Jin said. It was just a thought, something he had dreamed of achieving soon.
“I know,” and he did, from the way Jin would look at the little kids playing on the park to his fascination for who he called his niece, or the way he pushed him around when shopping for baby clothes.
It was Kazuya who wasn’t too sure about what he wanted.
***
“So, how’s life in the Kamenashi house?” Yamapi asked, laughing as Jin grimaced at the mention.
“Well, it used to be worse. I’m kind of used to the chores now.”
“Who’d have thought my dear friend, you, who doesn’t even wash his own clothes, would do that and so much more for others,” Jin just shrugged.
“Kazuya helps sometimes too, even though he used to add to my misery. He’s become nicer now…” he said, recalling the rare smiles he’d rip out of the other, that were highly contagious.
Yamapi smiled at his friend’s dreamy face “So are you free now? We could hang o-” he was interrupted by the ringing of Jin’s phone.
“Just give me a minute,” Yamapi nodded, waiting while Jin took the call, but as his friend’s face gradually grew grave, he stared, alarmed.
“What’s wrong?”
“Shit, Kame has been hospitalized. It's...it's not time yet. Pi, I…”
“Just go. Don’t worry about me, go!”
Jin hurried off, a panicked expression on his face.
He asked for Kame’s condition in the reception, but no one gave him exact instructions.
In the end, he had found Kame’s parents.
“Where is he? How is he?” he blurted out.
Mrs. Kamenashi, face flooded with tears, just buried her head in her husband’s chest, unable to let out any words.
The woman, who had forsaken him for so long, seeming like the meanest person he had ever met, seemed so small and inoffensive at that moment.
Kame’s dad only shook his head, and Jin’s heart ached.
With every step he gave in the direction of the boy’s room, something hammered painfully into his heart.
As the door opened, he was faced with the frail form of the younger boy seating on the mattress, dressed in the hospital’s white gown.
The other slowly turned to face him, chapped lips parted, eyes red, contrasting with the pale porcelain complexion.
Jin was almost shocked out of words, but he pulled himself together. He promised himself he’d be strong for both of them “H-hey,” he managed to muster, walking inside to stand next to the bed.
Those soulless eyes stared back at him, so broken and dead.
Jin bit his lip, leaning down to hug the non-existent stomach to him.
In the end, he couldn’t do anything else but break down.
Kame didn’t move. There were no tears or emotions on his face. He just turned his head to look out the window, looking at the sky and the far distance, and settled a hand on top of Jin’s head, letting him cry against his stomach.
The next day, when Jin got to Kame’s room, the latter was already gone.
Jin let the bouquet of flowers fall to the ground.
No matter how many times he called Kame, it always got to the voicemail.
The boy didn’t go to school, didn’t get out of the house, no matter how long Jin waited outside.
On the third day, Jin got a message from Kame. It read: You can come pick your things up tomorrow.
Jin went to Kame’s house, but only the elder Kamenashi was there to give him his things, before going out for work.
***
Kame’s eyes widened, seeing the older boy waiting for him, sitting over his bags by the door of his house. He picked up a faster pace, racing to get to the door.
Jin stood up, realizing the other’s presence “Kamenashi, why have you been running.”
Kame halted, back facing Jin “There’s no need for you to be with me anymore. The baby’s gone.”
"Come on, Kame. We can make a new baby. Don't walk away now," Jin pleaded.
The words, stuck in his throat, burned him, killing from the inside, but he wasn’t going to break down now. He had already gone through the worst part and had managed to even smile. It wasn’t Jin who’d crack his smiling mask now.
"You're wrong, Jin. You're the one that has always wanted this baby, not me. I'm happy it is gone," Kame said, the words burning in his throat like poison, and he didn't turn back, didn't stop to look at Jin who stayed so unnaturally silent, just walked ahead until he's out of Jin's sight and inside the house, and finally his knees gave in. He slid down against the door and he dropped to the ground, letting the tears free.
“Why are you always running? You think that makes you stronger, but it’s ok to be stuck to the past and not move on right away. Why do you fear me so much?” Jin said from the outside, his voice gradually dying down, pressing his forehead to the closed door.
“I’ve known you long enough to know that not everything coming from your mouth comes from your heart,” Kame put a hand on his mouth to cover his voice, hearing those words, tears threatening to fall “Come out, please. You’ll regret turning back, later, when you find out what could have been. I thought I had long ago opened this door, then why is it closed in my face again?” he punched the door “Please, Kame…”
Long seconds passed by without answer, when suddenly the door swung open “Shut up, idiot.”
Jin smiled through his tears, hugging Kame tightly “You mean you like me too, right?
Kame’s only response was to bury his head into the crook of Jin’s neck.
"We can try having another baby," Jin suggested when they had calmed down slightly, bodies still pressed against one another.
“I refuse to carry it again. I’ll get fat” Kame immediately refused and Jin chuckled.
“I can try it. Maybe I’ll be the 40th registered case,” he said “No matter who carries it, as long as it has our genes, it's creation of the two of us.”
“You’re so sappy,” Kame accused, but Jin could feel a new fit of tears wet his shoulder.
Somehow, he couldn’t hold back his tears either.
He’d let everything out and then start over with the person in his arms, who he’d definitely not let go of ever again.
