The weirdness of the modern world

I saw something truly ridiculous last night. There I was, about to bake my Marks & Spencer pizza, when I noticed a strange little mark, like a warped bar code. Reading the packet further, I discovered this was a "SmartOven" code; apparently one can buy an oven with a Smart Reader, you hold up the code on the packet to the reader and the oven then ( Read more... )

Seriously, I know someone who would find the SmartOven really helpful... I think you know who I'm talking about. It's the person with the IQ of 165 and the infinitely variable common sense level. He's not in any way lazy, but he is chaotic, and I think he'd really appreciate it.

I have to be rather wicked here and point out that the Spectator and the New Statesman have a surprising amount in common. :-D

I suppose it might be helpful for harrassed single parents who are trying to do twenty things at once in the evening, they scan the packet and the over automatically cooks it for that long - which would mean they don't accidentally leave it in to long and end up with burnt dinner. Despite that, I do think that they will mostly be bought by lazy people because single parents always try to do too much at once!

But then you have to buy a new oven. . . Nope, I'm still not feeling it, I can cook dinner and deal with homework and a tantrum at the same time, I don't need a robot-oven!

*grin* Ok. I give in! It's a rubbish idea that they had, and it is pandering to some of the worst sides of human beings these days.

I had to try and give it a good reason for existing!

Hope you're ok, and the tantrums aren't driving you too crazy!

OK, see, I'd already started laughing at the Marks & Spencers pizza part, before I got to the smart oven thing. Just please tell me you haven't started buying bags of grated cheese or tubs of mashed potato!

Hey don't knock the M&S pizza! It was to save money by preventing me getting Domino's! And no, I am introducing the joys of cooking from scratch to my charges. I tell J off when he wants to buy those instant cake packs! But for tubs of mashed potato, that would be my friend Emily's job. Her 5 year old didn't know that melon started out as a big round thng, she's only ever seen it in packets from Waitrose!
