So, I kinda ran away and joined tumblr...

I mean, it's a bit more complicated than that -- I've also been dealing with my first full-time job (over a year now!) and various other life changes -- but definitely part of it is that once I joined tumblr, it kinda sucked up a lot of my fannish time.
There's so much fannish energy on there. It moves incredibly fast and you have to run to keep up ( Read more... )

so that's been where I've been having most of my fandom conversations for the last year+.

I keep wishing that I could get more into tumblr as that seems to be where everyone is these days, I just can't figure out how to have conversations on there :( I go there to reblog gifs for half an hour or so, but I just get lost as to how you're supposed to actually interact with fandom on there

I'm in the same place - I wanted to ask, just how do you have a fandom conversation on Tumblr? I've never managed to figure it out!

Yeah, the hard part is adjusting to how different the conversation lines are on tumblr. I just wrote out some suggestions here -- http://butterfly.livejournal.com/1471850.html?thread=10271082#t10271082 -- but it definitely takes some getting used to!

Yeah, the interaction can definitely be tricky. What you want to try to do is find the meta writers section of your fandom (ex: buffy meta) -- all you really need to do is find one active person who is having interesting conversations because then you can piggyback onto the other people in the conversation and follow them, and see who they're talking to, etc.

But another thing that helps out so much is using a third party extension like xkit, which basically fills the gaps -- it lets you reblog yourself, gives you an outbox, etc. And xkit also lets you blacklist tags that you don't want to see -- this is super-useful because it means you can follow people who talk about things that squick or bore you and you can just filter out any posts using those keywords.

You have have conversations by reblogging. Which... isn't as good a set-up as LJ at all, but it can be done (ex: post of mine about filler episodes in SPN).

All of This Past. It has literally ruled my mind since I first came across a rec for it and watched it a million time on YouTube. I can't explain quite how important a moment it was in my understanding of the DW reboot, the characters, specifically the Master and Ten, but your video was seminal to my understanding of a really complex moment in the show's arc. Truly a highpoint!
