due South: not wars but maybe mild discontent in the countryside

Dec 20, 2011 08:01

You know, I still occasionally get chiding comments on posts that are more than six years old telling me all about how much I must hate Ray Vecchio* because I said something (six/seven years ago!) about how a) I don't find Ray V. personally attractive, b) I don't ship Ray V. and Fraser, or c) I like Ray K. more ( Read more... )

First, sorry this happened to you.
Second, I like Ray K better as well, and do not ship the guys together either. :)

If it were just today, it would just be one strange anon, but this happens every so often and it's just... weird.

So do I. In fact, I'm very fond of him, but I still can't see him with Fraser. Ray K after he gets back from undercover? Yes. Fraser? No. Their chemistry always felt too brotherly to me, while Fraser & Ray K's always had a bit of a kick to it.

Yes, very brotherly. I mean, I think that Fraser and Ray V. had a deep and fascinating relationship. Just not one that strikes me as at all romantic or sexual.

This happens to someone else I know every so often - she posted quite recently about a due South troll getting upset about imaginary Ray V hatred that's based on comments from 2006. IT MUST BE THE SAME TROLL.

It very well could be! Someone is VERY CONCERNED that not everyone loved Ray V. best years ago.

It never ends! LOL.

Everyone just needs to accept that in the Ray Wars one side did definitively win years ago (if by winning we mean ALMOST ALL THE VIDS AND FIC AND META AND FANDOM).

And I say this as a Ray V/Fraser shipper who only reads the Ray K stuff against my preferences because it's always so damn good. *g*

Let it goooooooooooooooooooooo strange time traveling anons!

It's kinda astonishing about how some people can't let go. IDK. I mean, when I was watching the show for the first time and got into the fandom, I did end up feeling a little Ray War-y at first and thus felt vindicated by Ray K 'winning' but time mellowed my feelings and I liked Ray V more and more.

" I did end up feeling a little Ray War-y at first and thus felt vindicated by Ray K 'winning'"

That's a really childish attitude to have, but I'm glad to see that you began liking RayV more and more. There is really is so much more to Due South than F/K slash, which to me is boring and tired because all F/K fics read the same way, and some STILL bash poor RayV by making him homophobic and the "bad Ray" compared to perfect Kowalski. That's just unacceptable!

Don't you understand that it just makes F/V fans, and fans who don't particularly like Kowalski, angry when they hear that F/K fans "won" the war?

It's better to say that there were **no** winners in the Ray Wars - because they led to RayV being treated as a secondary character in the fandom and not receiving the respect and love that he should receive from fans. RayV is still being written as negative - homophobic, hateful to Fraser, etc. - in some F/K fics. Did you know that? That just should NOT be happening anymore, but it is.
