They weren’t, on reflection, anything close to the same thing.
Cue the ominous musical beat... Luke is having some of his ideas about who his father was smashed. I do like that he's clear-eyed enough to accept them. However, when I watched after seeing RotS, it seemed pretty obvious that Vader is identifying himself as a *Jedi*, even though he's acting as a Sith. Lots of weird crap going on inside his head, I think.
“I know, it’s such a silly name,” Obi-Wan said. “You’d think that that would turn people off, but you’d be wrong. It’s insanely popular, despite its crudeness. Well, you know how it is.”
“Not really,” Luke said. Luke's been too busy fighting a war. I do like how he keeps confounding them by being totally unaware of the peacekeeping/policing functions of the Jedi. He might as well have dropped from the sky to Obi-Wan and Anakin, instead of the other way round ( ... )

And yes, Anakin's relationship with the Jedi in general is an interesting one.

I'm really digging the story so far, especially since I love time travel. And it's also great to read about my favorite characters and have them so vibrant and recognizable- I think I've been reading the Star WQars EU books for too long.

Time travel is a lot of fun. Fun character combinations.
And I'll tell you a secret -- I have read a grand total of one SW book, ever. And it was the (very slashy) novelization of RotS. So, I know nothing of the EU.
