6. Do not read Stephen Chbosky--a very potent and talented author, but I have decided that his prose is spiritually corrosive.
By which I mean, extremely depressing and negative.
I mean, I only read it once, and liked it, but... that's the impression that I get.

As for Perks, I think you've got it wrong. It's true that the book is depressing, but it's about rising against whatever ailments you have and being more than that and not being on the fringe so much. The ending is really optimistic and hopeful about all that, despite all of the desperation and destructive behavior in the book.
