Kari: oh the names just get better and better. Picking a name is soooo hard unless you already have an idea that you both agree upon. That's why our last baby (from 2008) was named Lazarath. Robert randomly said it and then we never bothered to change it. Ridicilous name ( Read more... )

There's a Cedric Digory in Harry Potter- he's the pretty boy.

Interesting... so that's two instances. I should look it up and find out more information on its origins...

Apparently there are some books about "Digory the Dragon Slayer" - maybe it's a name that lends itself to fantasy!

One site says:
The boy's name Diggory \d(i)-ggo-ry\. An English name which may be a place name referring to a dyke.

Apparently 4 out of 1,000,000 babies got named Digory in 2008.

Phew! Well to be honest I wasn't worried - I can sniff out the stench of a Madison-namer from miles away, and you and Dan definitely have the delicate scent of obscure-yet-awesome-Biblical-name instead! :op

HAHA... that's so funny because we were looking in the Bible for the absolutely most random weird names we could find to taunt people with while we wait.

My personal favourites were Huz and his brother Buz, Iddo (the Original Marx Brother!), Issachar, or perhaps best of all Mahershalalhashbaz...

Harder to find girls' names though. Most of the girls' names in the Bible aren't all that weird. Except for, say, Job's daughter Kerenhappuch...

Did I ever tell you about the hippies who turned up at one church we attended who had a son named Hope and a daughter named End-of-all-flesh?
