Constantly updating the "5-year plan"

The "5 year plan" should be called the "5 minute plan" because thats how often I change my goal.

I think I am going to go back to school out here in New York.  I know I was meant for something different that Accounting, and I am willing to take the chance to find out what that it.

First, must pay off Graduate School loans.  I am at $25,000 right ( Read more... )

The first time I ever met you I can remember you telling me how much you wanted to do this. It brings a smile to my face hearing you still want to do what you're passionate about.

Oh Jamie, you are such a supportive friend. Any chance you can come to G.P. to visit me over this holiday break?

awww. this reminds me of our convos last month in detroit. i TOTALLY think you should & WILL succeed in something creative. & what better city to embrace the fashion world in?

& just some sidenotes:

(a) you could model, too. for real. pretty, tall, skinnyminnie, GREAT HAIR & fashion sense

(b) even something like being a buyer for designers - i could see you doing that for sure. plus you'd be mixing your accountant background with arts & fashion.

think of all the awesome perks there would be to being in the fashion world, too. runway shows. events. clothes. & obviously, the most important: living your dream.

i say go for it. AND wheel of fortune.

I have thought about doing the buyer route for sure. It would just have to a company whose style I really admired and would want to find a niche within that I could improve upon.

but the idea of going back to school is something I am so interested in! I loved school(but this time around I want to be involved in a program that I am actually interested in)! But who knows, I could save a ton of money if I didn't and just found a way to like you said incorporate both.

why do you have to go to school to get somewhere that uses art?

why can't you try and leverage your background into a company that will notice the fact that you have a "high level of education" but lets you have free reign over something that is more along the lines of what you'd like to do?

It really just doesn't work like that out here. Not to mention a NY private school is much more respected as a form of education than an accredited michigan "state" school. Also, school acts as an immediate form of networking with those already in the industry, which is essentially what I want anyways.

stumbled upon your journal while browsing around lj.

just wanted to suggest a certificate or associates program at Parsons or FIT. (Or for that matter, just continuing-education classes or workshops in general.) That way you don't have to worry with the liberal arts and foundation classes of a BFA and go straight to fashion work. Saves you time, money, still gets you into the industry, and is just as valuable as a BFA. The piece of paper on a diploma will get you nowhere, although it's tempting to think that going to one of those prestigious schools will get you a job, but it's only the skills that will get you a job, skills you can essentially learn anywhere.

Thanks! I would much rather get involved in more specific classes as opposed to what is often called "General Ed" as I have already participated in so much schooling already. Thanks for your tips!

Accounting can be an art, as long a you don't get caught.
