The Aeons are no longer wreaking havoc upon us... that's a relief, to say the least. Have other Summoners found it as daunting a task to calm them?

I wonder what has become of them now.

I think I had better luck than some, considering, but it still wasn't easy.

What do they do for your people? They protect them?

Yes. We summon them to assist us in battle. For a long time it has been custom for a Summoner to train and then go on a Pilgrimage to gather the Aeons' power. I went on one such journey myself, and then later with a younger Summoner. The Aeons... were needed to defeat Sin.

A fearsome monster who threatened our world. Summoners could defeat him to bring forth a period of peace, known as the Calm. But Sin always respawned... until the latest Pilgrimage.

That's right, thanks to a young Summoner named Tidus.

Tidus?

Oh--I didn't know he was a Summoner!

I'm surprised it never came up. I helped him train and hone his skills.

Well, we haven't talked that much. I just remember him mentioning blitzball, I think.

Right, of course. That has always been important to him as well. He tried to follow in the footsteps of his father in both blitzball and swordfighting. He was successful as a blitzer... but not as a swordsman.
