Well, it has been a while since I found the time to jot something down here. It's not really been for a lack of time. I remember reading 'The Wave' at school as part of Standard Grade English (the English department had ended up with a set of 30 or so copies, so persisted in teaching it), but I didn't realise it was famous because I've never known anyone else to admit to having read it.

If it was based on a real experiment, it was definitely cheating to use teenagers to test whether or not people are inclined to follow arbitrary rules just because everyone else does.

Most of what I know about the actual experiement I've got from film reviews and alas Wikipedia (The Third Wave).

It still seems to be a very popular school book in the States so a lot of people might remember reading it. It's not very popular in Germany.

My most memorable school book is called "The Day They Came To Arrest The Book" about the 1st Amendment and Huckleberry Finn. Interesting and readible.
