convergence tuesday: The Passion of the Fen

joshuwain wrote some great questions in responding to my very long Four Days post and I wanted to elaborate on that for today's normal* CONvergence Tuesdays post.Much of this emotional state rises from issues outside of the control of the convention. Most passion -unless I am wrong; correct me if I am- seems to arise from personal life.

How do we reinforce, ( Read more... )

Since you talked about Concessions here, I'll mention that I have a couple of product ideas that I'd like to mention to you at the meeting this Sunday.

And on an unrelated note, it is really annoying how tiny the text is when commenting in your LJ, it makes it much harder to notice typos. Is there something wonky going on in my browser or do you have it set this way? Just curious...

"He's got a huge talent for project management" - Is that Jon saying I'm "old"? ... ;-)

A number of people have come to me with suggestions for things to add to Concessions.

But we have to be careful not to spend money on things that won't sell. So we're taking all suggestions and then analysing them.

Oh, I'm sure there is an unending list of ideas and I'm not assuming these are the best out there, but I think they have potential. Let's chat at the meeting on Sunday.

Besides, "lots of experience" would be code for old, wouldn't it?

What do you mean my answers aren't thorough enough?! :-p I meant to say that Art Show people have already brought their passion, to start with. So I really did mean that in their case more of the onus is on the organization, for the moment.

I think you have a wonderful analogy vis a vis car, engine, gasoline btw: careful tuning of the engine and attention to driving technique can save a lot of gas! Extend the analogy to the topic du jour, the change to a four day convention: driving 55 miles an hour over a longer distance and avoiding lots of rapid accelerations saves gas vs. driving as fast as you can to get to the end of the trip. yes?

Instilling basic passion is very difficult to do for an organization. The starter comes from within (perhaps we must abandon the analogy at that point, I'm afraid).

I reassert that what I'm saying is about keeping it from fading: it's not just about encouragement, but taking an active role in these other factors.
