Continuing from my last post, let’s consider the Eucharist.  The Eucharist isn’t something that the priest does for the people- as if we needed anything besides Christ’s death on the Cross for the forgiveness of our sins.  “Eucharist” means “thanksgiving,” and that’s what it is- a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving for what Jesus has already done ( Read more... )

Say rather that GOD chooses one person to represent us before God (and Him back to us) -- to "lead us" in worship, if you will. Isn't that what happens in ordination: as the Bishop prays and lays on hands, God pours out His own Spirit on the priest and anoints him to serve as a representative of the Body, on behalf of the Body, in the midst of the Body?

My two cents. :-)

Yeah, it's God's choice first of all. There would be no order of ministry if Jesus didn't create it, and no one would be a minister without him. At the same time He makes all of us priests and ministers. Eg in the early church, bishops were elected by the members of the church they were to serve at- sometimes even against their will. He wasn't someone God (or the Pope, or whoever) put over the people, but someone they chose in cooperation with the Holy Spirit (hopefully).

Good to hear from you Jonathan :)
