What is the Word of God? pt. 1: The Problem

This post is the first in a series on the Word of God.

Okay, so first off... you guys are so awesome.  I've had so much fun participating in the discussion both here and on the christianity community about this topic.  Probably every single one of you who posted had some influence in what I'm going to say.

When you say "liberals" the second time do you mean some specific wacky theological movement like christian existentialists et al, or something else I don't understand? Do you mean theologically liberal in some specific way, and I'm the one who's confused because I mostly think of "liberal Christians" as Christians who are politically liberal?

I mean theological liberalism as a school of thought: http://www.theopedia.com/Theological_liberalism

Not necessarily political liberals. I know extremely conservative Evangelicals- people *I* would consider crazy fundamentalists- who are quite liberal politically.

But yeah, I probably shouldn't have included liberals the second time. I don't remember why I did; maybe I just goofed and was looking at the first list while writing the second. Although my impression and experience is theological liberals historically are less realistic about religious experience- at least, I've never heard of a liberal Christian saying, "God told me to do such and such." But I probably don't really know what I'm talking about. What do you think?
