This is really quite special. It brushes against things rather than saying them dead on. I love the brevity and simplicity, and the beautiful language. It's the sort of story that lingers in your mind with echoes of nuance. It expresses the detached desperation of the teenage years that has no rational outlet, magnified by the extra complexities of Winchester life. The emotional tone is intense, but it is stealthy as well, like a trickle of water that eventually wears away stone. I'm glad there was extra time allowed for this prompt. I would have hated to miss this story.

Your prose is breath-taking!

I don't know how you do it, but there was always a sense of a foreboding - of a secret - about the fall. I was reminded of A Separate Peace the whole time.

Lovely, lovely, hurty stuff.

You had me at "brownie batter soil." :) Those are three words that, combined, are going to make a lot of people jealous. I know I am! And there was jell-o and marshmallows and now, dangit, I want a snack.

This was really good. I would tip my hand, were I wearing one.

P.S. The little kitty is absolutely adorable. And a nut. He tried to attack me, and then there was laughing at me. :(

1. I actually wrote most of this at work... between the hours of 10am-1pm. I noticed the food imagery after I finished it. I must have been hungry.

2. Thanks for reading!

3. They shouldn't have laughed at you! That adorable fuzz ball is a killing MACHINE! They should be happy you escaped with your life. :)
