I thought Steel Beach was incredible and quite moving. Titan, Wizard, and Demon were awe-inspiring in the scope of the world they presented, and Millennium was sort of creepy and weird, but S.B. just felt like a future world filled with real humans.

I had the Titan, Wizard, Demon trilogy recommended to me by a cool bookstore employee in East Lansing, MI. I tried reading The Globe and had to put it aside it was so bad, so I'm glad to hear there's other good Varley stuff out there, because o.m.g. did I love Steel Beach. It's one of few extremely long books I've read twice.
