Fascinating! It's amazing just how much a landscape is changed by trees. I was looking at the Augustus John painting of the Blue Pool last week, which shows the Blue Pool in 1935 as a clay pit with bare white slopes. Eighty-five years later, it is surrounded by pinewoods.
It's very silted now, so I would definitely not wish to fall in! We were down there yesterday and saw a kingfisher though, so presumably someone considers the water acceptable now...
The woods soften everything to the point where you can't see the edges any more.
