Still no spiderbaby

So we DID go to the village show, which after migrating from field to field around the village for some years, now seems to have settled conveniently in a field just up the road from us so it's easy to walk to.  It is tradition that our village show should occur on the one really wet weekend in July, but not this time.  The sun shone, the sky was ( Read more... )

That looks like a lovely traditional village show. Especially the Men Only baking class, with the simplest of cakes - straight out of the 1950s! (Though, having said that rock buns are simple, I once absently-minded managed to make rock buns with plain flour = actual buns made of rock).

I believe it is compulsory for there to be a display of static engines and old tractors at every village show. We have a photo of my granddaughter asleep in her pushchair in front of one from last summer.

The last show we went to the man doing the birds of prey display did lose his falcon - he'd spent so long wittering on about his personal life (all totally irrelevant) she'd gone off and got her lunch.

The rock buns are there because 'there was always a class for baked item by a man' and thus 'there always will be'.
