'It isn't busy' I said...

In my last post with the dragon where I mentioned I had been Left in Charge.  This happy state of affairs persisted until Friday, when suddenly the orders began pouring in, and they continued pouring in until Sunday. I think there were probably about... 40 of them? Most were for several items each!

I went to the post-office twice on Monday and Pp ( Read more... )

Is it possible the orders tied in with people being paid at the end of the month last Friday. So it was 'ooh, look at all that money, quick I must spend some of it'. Not that I've ever thought this ;)

... ON THIMBLES? (I'm probably dismissing thimbles too easily, I fall into the category of... but why would you need more than one??? There are probably people who think this about... I dunno, pencil sharpeners, an item of which I have a vast and varied supply, and am always losing.)

People collect them. If you go to gift shops you'll often find decorative thimbles for sale. And because they're small you don't need a huge cabinet to display them.

Thinking of weeks spent playing D&D with lots of miniatures wanting scenery to hide behind in combat, and people embroidering while waiting for their initiative to come round again, I can't see it as coincidental at all :-)

... OK, I admit that was EXACTLY where my mind went too, but... surely that isn't such a common thing that 40+ people are preparing to do it in one weekend, is it? Or, maybe it is...

I would very happily play a D&D campaign in which our party's miniatures moved through an exquisitely furnished dollshouse. I'm not sure if the Thimbles are the enemies we need to battle (or, more likely, outwit by using our 18 skill points in tea party etiquette) or the helpful and friendly denizens. In the latter case, I see them as looking a bit like moles, though, standing on their back legs and wearing gingham and spectacles. I can't quite see what they'd look like if hostile. Still a little mole-like, perhaps, but more gelatinous, and with no gingham.

Post Office Bingo would need to be 3D. 3 cards on different levels, one for RPGs, one for thimbles, one for dollshouses. You score for a line on any card, but also for an obscure country that has received all 3 items. Sounds like fun! :-D

There is something very comical, but also faintly menacing about the word 'thimble' now you mention it...

I think PO J had a rather simpler bingo in mind, since I don't think the thimbles and dolls houses are exported, but I could be wrong. Perhaps I should find the Thimble Queen and the Maker of Doll's Houses and try to persuade them to export, in the interests of providing the PO family with more complex bingo entertainment.
