Autumn colours

Today it poured with rain, but the last week has had wonderful autumn sunshine. I always seem to forget to take photos of the garden in autumn, but on Saturday I remembered:   View from under the apple tree (I must trim the top of that hedge...)

I think that maple's name is Edgar. It looks like an Edgar.

Unrelatedly, one of the things I learned on the trip to Wales last month was how to tell the difference between a ripe blackberry and one that is very nearly but still not quite ripe. There seem to be a lot of blackberries in the vicinity of historical sites, so there was a lot of spontaneous foraging. ;-)

Such lovely and evocative photos.The first one even calls up a certain not quite expressible autumn scent.

Fresh chestnuts! Growing up, I would buy them from men with braziers in New York this time of year. They were delicious, hot, and slightly burned.
