You made me wonder! I suppose it could be a weathervane, since it's not in the form of a cock. But I think you can say 'weathercock' even if it's not actually shaped like a cock. (No, I mean a bird, for the avoidance of doubt. Though now I think about it, I bet if Romans had weathervanes, there would be both sorts :-D )
