Insurance annoyance

You would think that being inside your house all day would be seen by insurance companies as a bit of a security feature, a desirable trait in someone who wants to buy house insurance? But no! What is it about insurance companies and burglar alarms? I hate bloody burglar alarms. Always going off, to no discernible purpose other than annoying the unfortunate neighbours. We have one (not our fault; it came with the house) and although we never arm it, it still went off when we had a power-cut last week. Carried on making a most annoying racket until the power came back on.... (We rang the number on the box to try and find out how to silence it, out of embarrassment and pity for the neighbours, but the alarm company said they couldn't tell us because we didn't have a contract with them. Gits.) Neuromancer

Sorting out insurance is a pain - I hope you don't ever have to claim. I don't know whether you've already tried them, but I used to get my business and home insurance through Ecclesiastical (you don't have to be a member of the clergy to use them anymore). They seemed to be very good though I never had to claim, so I can't say how they would have been in those circumstances. They certainly didn't require you to have a burglar alarm when I used them, just the usual standard locks on any outer doors and ground floor windows. They might be worth a try next year.

I'll give them a go next year, thanks. Our business insurance is with Icon, who are brilliant and very cheap, but they don't do house insurance.
