A Snow Event

Feb 03, 2010 23:33

I'm not sure why I love snow so much. I guess maybe it's because I'm channeling my childhood, where we'd sit by the TV, waiting for the weatherman to announce the school closings, giggling at the way the new guy butchered the pronunciation of towns with names like Pushmataha, Pottawatomie, and Tahlequah.

Yes, I still get excited for snow )

You know what else announcers blow? Hockey player names. You probably wouldn't even talk to me if you heard the butcher job I did on a radio sports update back in my radio days. *Laughs*

Enjoy your snow! You've obviously stolen ours, and I very happily hand it over. We've had very little snow this winter. Just enough in my book. Pretty and white, but none of the work involved. Last year, my hubby was out in the driveway every day!

There's something to be said for a good snowday though! Even I'll agree to that.

Grab some hotchocolate. Perhaps some baileys?

We've been in a snow drought over the last several years. We were due for this.

And I laughed at what you said about announcers blowing hockey player names. You can always tell who is a hockey noob by the way they completely mispronounce Miroslav Satan. We have an announcer for the Caps who cannot say Bruce Boudreau, the Caps coach. It always comes out "Booce Boudreau". It should be a drinking game.

I enjoy snow. I'm just surprised to be getting it down here. Part of why I moved down here is that I don't appreciate getting over 2 ft of snow dropped on me at once.

That's funny because when I moved out here, I was excited that NoVA got so much snow! Since 2003 we've gotten some decent storms but the last few years it's been mostly dry. We were due for a big snow season like this.

At least it melted quickly this time. I got very very tired of climbing over ice hills to get somewhere the last time--or giving up and walking ON University Blvd. because the sidewalks simply weren't there.

Maybe I should dig out my inflatable sled this weekend...

That was me trying to get to the mailbox after the December snow storm. I have these things call YakTrax. Those along with my Bogs are awesome for trudging through snow. I have to admit, it was a lot of fun but doing that every day over on my way home would definitely be a PITA.

Hmm, maybe you could hook up some of those ferals and have a sled cat team?

I think my mom has a set of those. Something like them, anyway, which we applaud since she's breakable. She loves 'em.

Hee! Herding cats is hard enough--getting them to all pull together? :P

The winter storm warning on NOAA.gov has us at 20-28" starting tomorrow morning and ending Saturday night. Apparently, people at work got the memo because it was mass exodus with laptop this evening. If we don't get a big storm, there's going to be a lot of disappointed people.

The stuff we got yesterday morning was very wet so it melted pretty quickly but we still have a lot of snow on the ground from the storm that hit over the weekend. I think this will be our 5th or 6th snow storm this winter and the next one is in the forecast for next week. I may not be back in the office until Wednesday or Thursday.

One of my big snares about living on the West coast is the lack of snow. We barely get rain, so it's a huge weather shock to move from somewhere that has storms in the summer to a place that has 70 degree weather during Christmas.

But I'm glad you're getting snowful this year and I hope the storm moving in this weekend is a doozy!

It was indeed a doozy! National Airport only reported 17.8" but out where I am, we topped out at 32". It was the 4th biggest snowstorm in DC history. I was looking at the snow piled neatly on the roof of my front porch and I think we should be under an avalanche warning.

And it's the lack of snow that keeps me from moving West.
