Bullied Characters You Identify With

Sep 04, 2011 15:57

Over the years, I have liked many characters from TV shows and movies. However, one character I identified with a lot was B'Elanna Torres from Star Trek Voyager. She got bullied a lot because she was a part Klingon and her ridges made her out of place on the colony she grew up with where many of the people were human. I sympathized with what she ( Read more... )

The one I love was Lt. Saavak and her backstory.

Then there's young Spock in NuTrek. I would have loved to sit those Vulcans down and explained the absolute illogic of thier prejudice against humans, and allowing their children to be bullies. None of that fits in a society that preaches peace.

It's very sad when a parent feels the need to erase a species or a race from their children to protect them from hate. And how the others just don't get it.

Another Star Trek example, the actor Will Wheaton himself.

Spock actually helped me get over my problem with being bullied. It was only logical that I refrain from showing them emotions. I just laugh it off or stay stone cold...until I get home...

I find a lot of TV characters relatable myself- that's cool that you found something in common with B'Elanna. Although I'm going to do this: :-P And say darn you for that spoiler (I'm in the process of watching Voyager AND NG... haha).

Oh shit! I'm sorry about that. I'll remove the spoilery part just in case there's others that haven't watched Voyager yet and are in the process.

Hahaha it's okay no worries... it's been out for a long time so I'm sure you didn't think anything of it! I probably wouldn't have. ;)

That is true ;) However, I should have exercised caution because someone may not have been a fan of the show at the time and are curious about seeing it now...or they weren't alive when it aired and are interested in it (i.e it would be like Beverly Hillbillies for me :P)

I also relate to young Spock in NuTrek. As a person living with Asperger's Syndrome, emotion is hard for me to express sometimes and is infinitely difficult for me to read in others. When I watched the movie, I was struck dumb.

Another character I sympathize with is Lucy from Elfen Lied. Sadly, it's more along the lines of "sympathy for the devil" as she snapped from the stress caused by abuse and lashed out with killing intent.

Stories like these make you stop and think. Also... darth_eldritch? I agree. If possible, I'd be standing right beside you while you gave those Vulcan bullies a stern, logical lecture.

Thanks for the link. It was beautiful and I really liked Tom in this. Really need to do a rewatch. I also related to B'Elanna when I first saw it.
