This is definitely worse than the trolls I used to come across, and I came across some pretty fucked up ones. I think part of the problem is that troll culture, if you will, grew around the same time people began to be more public. I thank God that some of the trolls knew didn't have access to ANY of my real life social media outlets (mostly because I didn't have them), or the real life outlets of others I knew. Even some people who weren't necessarily trolls, but got irrationally angry with me... and apparently there were instances in fandoms when people WOULD make it personal if they could - though even then, in no way this level of awful. So it's not entirely new, but unfortunately it's easier and nastier. :(

I have to question the sanity of people like this, though. Are they doing this because they really don't understand that there's people on the other screen? Or are they like this IRL too, except IRL you can only go so far before someone punches/arrests you? It's scary.

It's scary.IMO, no..they aren't like this irl. There's a show in Sweden about this guy who confronts trolls (because some people don't seem to realize that some people can actually track down IPS addresses) and these people are too freaking scared to say or do anything that they would if they were a troll on the internet ( ... )

Wow. That actually doesn't surprise me. It's actually kind of sad... but I don't feel sorry for them when they pull shit like this.

That's an interesting article there. You should make a post about it to share with others. I know members can read it here as a comment, but it will get wider attention if it's a post....especially a public (however, you can't set it to public until after it's been approved by a mod).

Frankly, I'm not surprised by how some trolls are sadists. I always refer to some of them as being emotionally sadistic because they got off on emotional pain.
