Frankly, I'm surprised no one tried to do this to me when I was in high school. It's kind of sad that I expected people to do this to me. I'm just happy it never did.

I did have people send me candy grams though from people that claimed they had a crush on me when they didn't. Luckily for me, I eavesdropped on them talking about it and expected it to happen...so I didn't act all surprised when I got them (which disappointed the people...heh).

I'm glad the town is rallying behind this girl. It restores my faith in humanity a bit.

At least the rest of the town decided to back her instead of just going with her peers. I'll certainly give them that. I hope that this kind of support shows all those jerks that people care about her.

And I'm sure that there were probably people in my high school who would've tried to do something like this as well, because this sounds just like their kind of attitude. Fortunately, our school had a rule that members of the homecoming court had to be fall sports athletes, and I wasn't an athlete of any kind. (The fellow who was voted homecoming king my senior year was someone who students frequently made fun of behind his back too, and was also the target of some of the same crap I had to endure as well. They'd all try to deny it, though.) But they did try to do other things to me during other school events during the year (the candygram thing is something that happened to me too), and no one ever gave me an ounce of support.

I feel for her. That sort of horrible thing did happen to me as well; not being named homecoming queen but being put in the spotlight as a joke.

But I am so glad that the town rallied around her. The joke is on those who tried to be mean to her.
