War & Peace - readalong

I thought this would be a good idea.  Anyone want to read War & Peace along with me?  I have never made it through any complete work of Russian literature, ever.  I've tried to read The Idiot about three times.  Granted, the first interruption was 9/6/02, which was rather a bad day for me, then I had to return it to the library - but years later I ( Read more... )

I've never read War and Peace, but I think Anna Karenina or Dr. Zhivago would make better gateway Russian works of literature. They are both fantastic and heavy with the soap opera action.

Other people have told me to try Anna Karenina, too. Still, I happen to have War & Peace right here on hand... and I'm rather ditzy, so the more convenient, the less likely I am to forget about it entirely.

So far, I'm on page 9. I stopped to cook, eat, knit, read a web comic, watch 20 minutes of a television show, do laundry, and play with my cats. One of these days I'm going to have to get some ritalin.

I loved "The Idiot," and "Crime and Punishment," and basically all the Dostoevsky I have read. Maybe I can give Tolstoy a chance. As long as it can take me a while to read.
