Why can't you use circular locks?

They can be picked REALLY easily with just a Bic pen, which I think was known by some for a long time, but someone just posted about it on a bike forum the other day and it ballooned crazily out of control, and now everyone and their mother knows about it...so I assume that would-be thieves will be trying it out a lot, especially for the next couple of weeks.
