Two more (unrelated) things: Damon, and comments related to Angelina Jolie and actors/actresses.

Johnny Damon should get a new nickname. His name should be Johnny "Zell" Damon.

A mail ad for Blockbuster said something to the tone of "reconnect with your old friends" and underneath it wrote "(Brad, Angelina, Tom, Jessica, etc.)".

I started wondering:

How many people (not including than professional watchers like film critics) saw Mr. ( Read more... )

(For that matter, I heard something about Brad Pitt breaking up with his longtime wife after the production of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.)

Oh darling...you really are out of it. I would hardly call Brad and Jenn "longtime" but yes, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston got divorced sometime after Mr and Mrs. Smith and now Brad is supposedly with Angelina (whether or not that is official yet, I don't know...)

Anyway, I don't seek this stuff out, but last summer I worked in a grocery store and the tabloids are always at the checkout...

But yeah, you're out of the loop a bit...

You mean a lot. I very often thank Wikipedia for introducing me to who certain movie stars and other celebrities are. Which makes me wonder...who's Jennifer Aniston?

*might look it up later*

But yeah, I'm the kind of person who really couldn't care less whether Brad Pitt (for example) starred in a particular movie, and also the kind of person who couldn't name more than about one or two movies (only one in Pitt's case, that being M&MS) for just about any celebrity.

Off the top of my head: For Jolie, I can pretty much only name the Tomb Raider movies and M&MS. For Keira Knightley, for example, I can only name Pride and Prejudice, which I recently watched. For Jodie Foster, Contact; for Julia Roberts, Erin Brokovich, which I never even saw.

But yeah, I never got interested in most of what's normally considered 'popular culture'.

Jennifer Aniston's most famous role was Rachel on Friends.

You HAVE heard of Friends haven't you?

Yes; I haven't seen it, of course, much less know who the actors are.

While I'm pretty sure I've heard of Friends before I got into college, my first "documented" (as in I remember when) memory of hearing about Friends was my first year here. And that was because there was a debate over whether the floor lounge TV would be showing Friends or Survivor.

Needless to say, I am NOT familiar with most TV shows.

Yeah and apparently Jennifer Aniston fainted, and everyone was saying it was because of all the news about Brad and Angelina.
I think that most people are just so bored with their lives, everyone loves gossip. And that may be the case that movies like Mr. and Mrs. Smith are just about watching the actors, but I think there are also a lot of movies that people are watching for the story. People watch movies for lots of reasons.

As for people being obsessed with various celebrities, it may be due to two things ( ... )
