FIC: With Full Honors (3/3)

These occasions had become rote for her, and she didn’t like that. Sometimes she even had to write the names down on a card to make sure that she didn't make a mistake. The last service a few days ago had been a hurried affair, with no bodies recovered, no family to take the folded flag--it had felt empty, as empty as the caskets.

Great story!!!
I especially enjoyed the A/R conversation after the funeral.
And I like to ask how many stories does the series “Love in the time of war” have??? I so hope you won’t tell us any number under (at least) 25!!!!

It's great to hear that the conversation was good; I was afraid it seemed a bit too real, if you know what I mean.

Let's see, how many left?

I'm putting Eye of Jupiter and Rapture in one story. Worries is two. I don't see any hope for wringing anything from The Woman King. A Day in the Life is going to be fun, I think. I'm not sure about Dirty Hands. I really like that episode, but I don't know about any relationship stuff there. Maelstrom, The Son Also Rises and the Crossroads are going to be a great stretch to work with, what with the loss of Kara, Laura's cancer's return, and Lee's betrayal.

Then I have to decide if I'm going to go on into season four right off, or take a break. :D

How you do it is a mystery... Your output is so consistently excellent.
This was a wonderful expansion on the Passage episode -- it's great to see Laura's interaction with the military.

Thanks, thanks....

I've gotten into a weird little rhythm. I think it helps to stay on a writing schedule.

it's great to see Laura's interaction with the military.

I'm watching a lot of season 1/2, and I'm really struck how she kept herself apart from the military and even off of Galactica. But by this point, she's become a part of their world in more ways than one.

I always laugh at her by season four, how she's comfortably ensconced in Bill's quarters, there's that big picture of the two of them together on the wall...imagine going to meet the president, perhaps with the idea of complaining about the military, and you're faced with that!

I think the turning point was at the end of season two, when Baltar went to meet who he thought was going to be Adama, and instead, it's Laura lurking in the shadows of the Admiral's quarters. If that wasn't a message to Baltar and to us, nothing was.

Now she knew what every move signified, her salute was crisp, she knew when the white gloves stayed on and when they came off. She supposed these were her people now; she’d joined the tribe ( ... )

I've always appreciated how the show tried to show the military culture accurately, and a way to show its effect on Laura presented itself. I just love that scene in Flight of the Phoenix where they've named the fighter jet for her and wanted to do something similar.

Sometimes Bill really is an idiot.

I'm thinking a big galoot here. And it works. There's a sly dog under there somewhere too. ;)
