Though I've enjoyed lots of shows I get into few of the fandoms. So my favorite thing ever to come across are crossovers among the Buffyverse, Firefly and Supernatural. Crossovers are so often hard to get right but it's a real joy when they do.

I think (and someday this may actually turn into an essay) that some of the most interesting fanfic can be metafiction, self-reflexively commenting on it's own genre while at the same time telling compelling, fun, beautiful stories.  Not heavy handed, not weird, just lovely. I'm pretty sure this list has something for everyone from het quasi-sex to slashy, incestuous orgy. Yet, though the choices are diverse, it just proves that, even as the activity in the fandom wanes, hotness still comes in many forms in the BtVS/AtS 'verse.

There were lots of great Meta posts in 2006. This is a selection I particularly enjoyed. This being me, they do have a strong Spike-centric bias.

School Hard Re-examined, by peasant_. In this essay, the author makes what is to me a very convincing argument confounding the widely held fanon belief that Spike was bad at planning.
