Buffy, Slaying Vampires Since 1996 by shiruji. I have to quibble about the date since it was either earlier with the movie or the TV debut was in 1997, but a cute icon nonetheless!

All the Children I've Had to Say "Good Bye" To by protoneoromantic. Such a strong finish to this, and a title with such a punch when you know who it's said by.

The first scene of The Witch had a close-up shot of a sign saying "1996 Cheerleading Tryouts", so in canon, she arrived in Sunnydale in 1996. This could also be considered a continuity error, since the show was intended to debut in 1996 and was pushed back to spring 1997 as a mid-season replacement. (We can assume time kept pace with our world from that point on, since we know that their senior year Homecoming was in 1998 (Slayer Fest '98).) But 1996 is an accurate starting point, if not the only option. (I can't believe I remember this stuff!)

Excellent memory, alright! In that case then yes, it seems more likely she was called in 1995 if she began at Sunnydale in August/September 1996.

While it seems that the original movie's general plot was kept for Buffy's background, we know that her first meeting with Merrick was different so we can assume that there might have been some minor changes.
