Top Five Fantastic Remixes
Today I am celebrating the remix. The premise of a remix is simple. You take someone else's story (with their permission, of course) and write it differently. Disney films are an oddly great example of the remix concept, but personally, I think these authors do it better. These are five stories that mixed up this year and of course, each one has a link to the original that inspired it. (I'm not going to lie...there's a lot of femslash here.)
1) Same Strokes, Different Folks by brutti_ma_buoni - This Willow/Sandy tale is a remix of one of my stories, actually. BMB takes the original tale and turns it on it's timeline. She captures both characters extremely well and I promise she delivers a sting that will make your heart hurt a little for both ladies.
2) Love Is (the Death is My Gift remix) by rebcake. This main pairing in this story is Xander/Faith and the story is AU, set after "Chosen." Xander does some reflection on the theory that "Love Hurts" and we get to see the way he perceives the rest of the Scooby Gang in relation to this theory. There's some great Xander characterization here as well as some sweet bits.
3) To Be Human Like Me by clockwork_hart1. This story is Buffy/Faith-centric and is set in the Normal Again!Verse. The author doesn't rely on the-F-word to get Faith's POV across (I think it comes up twice), but it still feels like Faith is talking to the reader through the words. I promise this story will very likely give you feelings.
4) Another Side of Faith (The Wicca that Won’ta Remix) by valyssia. This one is Willow/Kennedy and Buffy/Faith. The author really stretches herself here and uses Willow as a "camera lens." If you ever wanted to read about someone watching other people flirt, this is the perfect choice for you.
5) Answering (The Observer's Remix) by deird1. This remix is told from the perspective of Raine, an employee at the Sunnydale Manor For Distressed Persons. It fills in the gaps of the original story and does so in a beautifully poignant, but completely objective way.
