Book Review: "One Day" by David Nicholls
I finished reading "One Day" by David Nicholls and it is such a fantastic book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D I decided to read it since I saw that Anne Hathaway was going to be in the film version and I just love her!!! :D I just loved this book and getting to ready about Dexter and Emma and their unique relationship!!! :D I loved how it took place every July 15th from 1988 till 2007 and seeing these characters change and their story. It was just SO well written and such a great read. I love how it's a British novel too and I do have such a fascination with England. ;)
I really loved Dexter and Emma and their love story. It's another one of those couples that you just KNOW are meant to be together like Jack & Kate on LOST, Jim & Pam on "The Office", or Josh & Donna on "The West Wing". They are opposites, but just fit so well together. :D You could just tell reading this how much in love they were with each other, but the timing just wouldn't work out. Even with Emma's other failed relationships and Dexter's bad first marraige, you know they were eventually going to work their way towards each other again.
I too feel like through this book I know these characters like real people. :) Even what they were thinking was just so right. ;) It was just like really getting into the head of these 2. :D
I loved the supporting characters too, and more so Dexter's daughter Jasmine from his 1st marriage, and his mom Allison. But all of the supporting characters were fantastic and well written too!!! :D
But I was SO happy when they finally were able to get together!!! :D They had such a happy marriage and they finally were able to be with each other. <3
Then it just got SO sad with the ending. :( I knew from reviews that this was a tear jerker, but I still didn't expect Emma dying being hit by a car. :( That was just SO sad. Poor Dexter. But I was glad in the final chapter he was ok and he had his daughter and father to help him get through it. :hugs:
But I am still a bit confused at the ending since after Emma died, the next chapter supposedly flashed back to 1988 and Emma woke up with Dexter there on the first night they were together. After watching LOST, it made me wonder if Emma woke up in the afterlife. ;) It just seemed different from the 1st chapter even though some of the events that happend in the final chapters from 1988 were similar. I just wonder if now Emma and Dexter are in the afterlife and they now have a chance to change things and will be together forever and they went back to 1988 since they knew that was where they just should have started their lives together as a couple. ;)
Anyway, I am also VERY excited for the film version of this!!! :D Anne Hathaway totally fits Emma and will be perfect for it!!! :D Same with Jim Strugess as Dexter!!! :D Reading the book with them in mind, they totally work!!! :D I can easily picture these 2 as them characters and did as I read the novel. I think if this movie is made good and written well it'll be such a GREAT film!!! :D I can't wait to see it next year!!! :D
