As for your piece: nice! I like the imagery and how you tie it in to their desire for each other, which I think was there even if Buffy felt ashamed about it and felt she was just using Spike (and vice versa).
I also think she didn't want it to be with Spike. That didn't fit in with her self-image, as they'd started out as mortal enemies and Angel/Angelus, for all his destructiveness, had never killed a Slayer.

Yes, I believe Buffy wanted to love, but was terrified of being hurt again. She had her issues.
